I've been to a surgeon who has suggested surgery for and internal hemorrhoid. I was quite swollen during that visit due to fleet enema. I'm just curious if anyone has ever talked about electrolytes, or lowering sodium, or increasing potassium, or water retention in general ?

I imagine most people involved in this thread have needed surgery even after trying such things already. Glad it worked for you.

Sounds like you have anal stenosis. I had that too. Make an appointment with your doctor and start treatment soon. In the meantime, continue the polyethylene glycol to keep your BM soft. Good luck! I'm still trying to find a new normal for me.

I just had hemorrhoid surgery about six day ago I must say that this pain is worse than child-birth at least after child-birth that pain is gone for most of us and you look forward enjoying your new baby. Each time I go to the bathroom is a struggle the pain is out of this world. My children now begin to clap each time I go. I was hoping that this pain will be over in two weeks or so, but what I have been reading it look like everyone is having pain for months. I pray God is not so, this pain is too much right now I am on my knees writing this.

Dear all, I am so pleased to hear that I am not alone on this. I had my surgery exactly a week ago today and I have been in excruciating pain especially during and after a bowel movement. The pain lasts for hours and defies painkillers. I even had to rush to accident and emergency three data after surgery as I was convinced something was wrong hence the pain. I was put on drips and given more painkillers. I wake up in the middle of the night with pain. Although my poo is normal size, I have noticed that I go at least twice a day which means hours of pain. I really wonder how long this would go on for? I want my life back and pain free. I have my post op appointment next Tuesday and I hope they can reassure me that the pain is a normal part of the recovery

I just had a second surgery to correct the stenosis after my hemorrhoid surgery. First off, for me it's been nowhere near the pain as the first surgery. Secondly, it seems to have worked so far as I'm not longer pooping squiggles.

I know this is probably not what your surgeon would recommend, but the anal area is a dirty area anyway. My mother was instructed to sit on a bathtub full of warm water a couple times a day. I am 1 week post-op (third surgery) and I have found this to be the best advice. it eases the pain after a BM, with straining over the stiz bath. I do not tolerate pain meds well, so I needed alternatives. My pain is bearable now. The first surgery was a different story. I could feel the peristalsis.

Surgeon helped my stenosis. Don't know if anyone is near columbus ohio here. Performed an excision of scar tissue that had formed after another surgeon botched my hemorrhoid surgery. He used a device he called a harmonic. Did not have a lot of discomfort after. Just FYI.
