I have asymmetry problems from head to toe;

My face is fine on the right side and then my left side pulls forward from behind my left ear, with a higher cheekbone on that side and pulling my nose curving to the left and even worse is my jaw has grown in the opposite direction and the jawbone on the right side is longer and overall my face is pretty well off the hook!! ;)

I just completed the following; rhinoplasty, Genioplasty, cheek and jaw implants!

I know the surgeon well and he remarked to me after the operation that he was quite surprised at how off it's axis my chin/jawline was, as it is severely crooked and pointing to the left.

I am 40 years old SWM, and after almost 6 months of post op healing, it is all looking pretty good but the original issue of a very crooked lopsided face is still there, it is a tough part of my life to obsess over every day.

When looking at me straight on my left ear is raised higher than my right ear and is more forward as my left side is somehow pulling forward to the center of my face. Uuuuggggh!!

its good to know others have the EXACT same problem as me (sorry but it is nice to know youre not alone).... hopefully none of you will go down the path I did when I was hurting the worst.  I did steroids and HGH to try to make my jaw more defined.... I would punch the left side of my face to try to make the bone thicker... very hard times,I failed out of college because I was afraid to go to class.. no one made fun of me but I always thought they were. I almost killed myself one day when it all felt like too much.. the best decision I have ever made was taking that belt off my neck, because to get to heaven, you have to go through hell, and that was the lowest I have gone in my life, and Im keeping it that way.... On the path to heaven always.. Im 20 now and have stopped all these stupid attemps.. I have now looked at my condition in a scientific way... I had a stroke when I was 14 and ever since then the left side of my face has been drooped... although it gets better every day with my new routine... I realized that there was nerve damage... so I am strengthening the nerves... I chew with the left side of my mouth.. VERY SLOWLY... I cover my right eye when Im alone in order to strengthen the left eye (this has been the most beneficial part to recovery.  when I close my mouth naturally my jawline is at an angle... so when i am watching tv or whatever, I clench the left side of my jaw, then slowly start to clench the right until the jawline is straight... I hold for one minute and believe me by the time that minute is over the left side of my face feels fully functioning. I try to sleep on the right side of my body (hardest part of my routine because I move around so much at night haha)  basically I wanted to say to you all It Gets Better.  take a chance, you might be surprised at how little people care about your physical appearance (theyre too busy worrying about themselves!)  I look at other people and think "I don't judge any of these people for how they look... why would they judge me.. and if they do, they are assholes and I dont want them in my life anyways."  Dont spend one more minute of your life looking back, please I hope my story can help others! Some days my BDD kicks in but when I feel it coming up I go and I exercise and by the time Im done with that last rep I feel unstoppable.  wanting to fix your flaws is OK, everyone does, but dont OBSESS about it! theres plenty of other things you can think about.. if you feel the stress coming up KICK IT OUT OF YOUR HEAD.... ultimatly you control every part of your body if you believe you do.  I will admit CONFIDENCE is the greatest feeling Ive ever had and that alone is the reason I am beating this!!!!  GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL IT GETS BETTER AND EASIER IN TIME!

I used to be happy with my face until my mom started telling me how ugly and lopsided my face was. But I will try that gum chewing idea to balance out my jawline!

It appears that most posting here are in their teens or twenties. I am old guy by your standards, but I can tell you it gets better as you age.

I was born with an asymmetrical face and body. It’s in my genetics. I know this because members of my extended family have similar characteristics. I was teased and I felt I was being stared at in grade school, junior high, and high school. I would get depressed, become unsociable, and I never thought I would ever get a girl friend. I thought I was some sort of freak.

As you age you become aware of the fact that there is a lot more to life than your looks. When you are younger it seems like all of the pretty people are having all the fun, have all the friends, and have all the success. In a few years a lot of those people will be fat, bald, sick, divorced, living in poverty, or even dead.

I went to college, earned a B.A. in Business Administration and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. I met a pretty lady along the way that loves me because of who I am, not because of superficial, temporary qualities. I am also a millionaire. Life is good. I learned that the people who rejected me because of my appearance were very shallow and because of that I didn’t really want to know them anyway. Mature people judge others by their actions not by their appearance.

Abraham Lincoln was considered an ugly man. He was called the “rambling ape of the White House” during his presidency. Looking back, there are not too many people who can match his historical reputation.  Nobody remembers the “pretty” people of his time.

This makes sense. I've noticed this recently and realised I always chew on the smaller side. I started chewing on the bigger side and noticed a small difference.

A symmetry is normal, and the most appropriate way to fix it would be to address the structural issues relating to your features. Mostly these things are normally in our heads a s no one scrutinizes others the way we do to ourselves. My teeth are crowded and so my jaw line suffers from that but, It's fine overall no one can notice a thing and I don't care if they do. I don't view  my jaw structure as a problem but my crowding as the real issue, and I'm not trying to let it overrun my life , or fixing it so I can appear to look better to other people. It is something that I want to do for myself.

No one here has said they are missing a limb, or eye, or anything  everyone seems to be intelligent and able to accurately convey their woes. SO what really is the issue here? The way they look or the way they want to appear to others... and not themselves... That is the definition of superficiality, and this shows a week shallow repressed person.

I too have the same issue. my right side is smaller than the left side. I don't give a dam'n about how I look as for me physical appearance doesn't matter there is more to a personality than just the looks. I have an awesome personality and my asymmetric smile is killing :). The only point of concern for me is, I face problem while walking or running because there is lot of pressure thrown on my left leg. I love trekking and sometimes that paining left leg just makes impossible for me to move forward without a pain killer. I would like to know if there is any remedy for correcting this asymmetry?? if there isn't any I am fine with it every one faces challenges in life some or the other :) and for all those who feel depressed for this reason..guys cheer up do things you are passionate about...how you look is just an aura that people feel....so feel awesome about yourself and everybody will know what you are...

I am 17 years old. A year back I had met with an accident which gave me a fracture on the right side of my face(maxilla). The doctors said surgery wasn't needed. Then after all the swelling had vanished I noticed that the right side of my face was bigger than the left. When I talked to my doctors about this he said it isn't related to the fracture and Corrective Jaw Surgery was the solution to the assemetry.

No dude, you got it all wrong, Guest was suggesting the complete opposite. You are supposed to chew on the smaller side to make it stronger hence bigger.

Same , my jawline is very slightly uneven. You don't notice it in person, only in pictures. When when i look at pictures of my younger self, my face was perfectly symmetrical. But, I'm getting braces soon, do you think braces will fix the unsymmetricy? Ip.s thankyou, I will definitely be trying the gum thing.

Hi guys! Im 21 and i also have an asymetrical jaw too. I noticed it when i was around 18, and i was so depressed and worried. I went to see a jaw surgeon for a consultation. My right jaw is longer than the left. This causes an asymetry by 6mm. The good news is that the jaw would be done developing around the age of 15 for girls and 18 for guys. So no worries your jaw wouldnt get any worse if you are passed that age :) i am happy the way i am now and dont want to risk anything by going through the process of surgery because there are a lot of risks and possible side effects. Getting braces wouldnt help fixing the asymmetry because it has to do with the bone( for my case). Please start appreciating the other good part of your body :) be happy the way you are. Life is too short to be worried about what other people think about you. Remember that you are not the only one :)
