Doctors like to give cortisone injections and pills because it gives people other medical problems.  Basically, cortisone might temporarily relieve inflammation or it might not do anything.  But it will definitely lower your immunity, it can raise your blood pressure, increase your blood sugar, erode tendons, erode cartilage, thin bone, thin skin and thin muscle.  It can give you cataracts and glucoma.  It's not recommended for the eyes but eye doctors love to give it to people because then they'll have to do cataract surgery or treat you for glucoma.  The adrenal glands produce cortisol in response to stress to stabilize your bloods sugar.  Giving you a shot or the pills probably causes an imbalance in your body.  Basically, cortisone ages the body.  Doctors don't tell you what the adverse side effects are because it's a business for them to make a profit.  Just like Consumer beware.  Patient beware and don't let anyone touch you until you've done your research.  That's why many people feel dizzy or get vertigo from cortisone injections.

I also have had a cortisone shot in my knee, afterwards my blood pressure sky rocketed, never had bp problems before. Ended up in the hospital twice, now on bp medication. Was already diabetic and that was high as well. Second visit to the hospital resulted in another blood pressure medication. I had heart palpations, got really dizzy, and went really cold. When the paramedics got here my bp was 230/103. Amd they about tore my arm off because the stupid machine kept restarting. Never again will I get a cortisone shot. I will suffer.

My BP has always been 100/60, but about a year ago I started getting regular cortisone injections and it runs around 145/90 after those injections.

Mine is usually 115/55 but after a cup of coffee it's about 155/65.

I went to the ER yesterday and they gave me a cortisone shot in my left shoulder. This is the second one for me. I had one seven years ago in the right shoulder. Two very different experiences. The first time my shoulder was hurting for several months before it got so bad I had to do something about it. After getting the shot the pain began returning in a few hours. At about 7-8 hours it was about 10 times worse than before the shot. Another 2 hours and it began to subside and in a couple more hours I was able to sleep. The next day it was MUCH better.

This time I didn't have the after pain and it just kept getting better. After a night's sleep it still hurts to lift the arm but the residual pain is nearly gone.

The last time I didn't monitor my BP but after reading this topic several years ago I have been watching it this time. So far no change from normal. I checked it as soon as I got home from the ER and several times until bed time last night. I just checked it this morning and it's still the same.

The drastically different experience with the pain has been a complete surprise. The first time they never told me the pain would get MUCH worse before it got better. This time the doc mentioned it and we even joked about it based on my previous experience. I was expecting a real whammy and nothing happened at all.

I had this reaction before and have had my heart racing up to 120 and blood pressure 190 over 120 , I went to hopsital and because i was having the heart pulps they kept me and ran test and said Heart was fine pressure came down and they did not see anything wrong and too said it;s not from the shots i had in my knees!!! Yesterday had a repeat of shots in Knee and Hand and guess what again pressure is sky high heart is pounding away and headache , You going to tell me it's not a reaction from the shot? I was fine the day i had it except for the pain .. Really i do believe that Doctors need not brush off patients with these complaints that the Injections have nothing to do with it ..Just saying

I have had three spinal injections of cortisone, the first two where helpful, one hour after the third my BP shot up to 212 over 110, medics took me to the ER. Took nine hours to get BP down to "normal".  Feel we should be more aware of risks, I started to dirve home but because of chest pain and short breath had to pull of and call 911.

I have high BP but its controlled with medication. I got a cortisone injection in my shoulder yesterday and woke up with a flushed face and my BP was 160/102 before taking my medication and after my med BP is 158/98 didn't come down much! I also have a bad headache! Why don't these doctors tell us the side effects to cortisone? Shame on them!

Maybe over a year since these remarks have been posted BUT I had 2 cortisone injections into my spine L3&L4 and L5&S1 on Monday (2 days ago). That afternoon I started getting very hot, exstream headache in the temple area, dizziness, palpatation. Took a couple of pain killers, no relief. About 4 hours later suddenly thought about "blood pressure", so I used our machine bingo 195/92. Rang my sister (who used to be a nurse) she had no idea and said "google" it.

From this forum yippie thank goodness for the internet. Found all your messages and knew why I was so down.

My General Doctor yesterday told me that the headache was because the injection had entered into the "spinal fluid" mmm that resulted me into doing another result. Now I understand it all.

Omg that is exactly how I feel right now. My head ache feels better but i can tell my pulse is very fast. I went to sleep and woke up full of sweat, my pillow was wet and my neck.. I had a cortisone shot in my are, and I already have high blood pressure and I have felt sick ever since. I will never have another cortisone shot again. Thanks for the confirmation because my Doctor said the same thing not related to the shot, I beg to differ......

I received a dose of five steroids to reduce very bad swollen glands and ear infection from flu. This was four days ago- yes the swelling is gone, but I have been a complete panic-I always have perfect blood pressure, it is now reading 180/85 and worse my heart rate is average 90 to 110 bpm resting! I haven't slept for days (doesn't help the Flu). Doctor says the steroids should have been out of my system in 24 hours - don't believe it for a moment. I am not a young person, 53 years old, I know my body, this has Never happened to me before. Still feel horrible, heart is pounding thru my chest, when I do fall asleep its only for 30 minutes and crazy dream filled.....how can this not be the steroids????

Hey did your bp ever return to normal? I'm in the same boat as you. cortisone injections caused my bp to skyrocket. It eventually went back to normal after about a month and a half, then a few weeks later it shot back up. It's now been high for around 4 1/2 months since the cortisone injections. Did yours ever come back down?
