I've had high bp for 4 1/2 months now since my cortisone injections. doesn't seem to return to normal. I'm seeing a cardiologist in 2 weeks. I've never had high bp or any heart problems for that matter until the corticosteroids.

I received a cortisone shot in my ankle. After the shot I sat for a while whenI got up I could bearly walk limping out of office. I iced my ankle and stayed off it. The next day I woke up and my ankle was sore but much better then the day of the cortisone shot. The third day I woke up and looked like I had a bad sunburn. I had such a headache all night long. I felt my heart racing and had a migraine. I am 49 and my blood pressure has always been good. I was having a hard time sleeping. I felt my mood swings go up and down and felt depressed. On day three my foot was healed no more foot pain. Well I worked for 13 days and felt dizzy and light headed a lot. During these thirteen days I felt exhausted, heart racing, neck pain, chest pain, lung tightness. I also had a numb tongue on left side only.My right eye was blurry.I knew if something happened to me I worked in a hospital. I went to doctor after 8 days from receiving a cortisone shot and was put on blood pressure (lisinopril 10 mg) medicine. My blood pressure was 169 over 96 my heart rate was 120. The medicine worked right away. But then......
On day 13 I was exhausted and I have been having chest pains I noticed my eye getting blurry and left side of my tongue numb. I was working in a hot IV room and been getting dizzy all morning. I went down to ER. Blood pressure 171 over 98 heart rate 126. I was flush. All test turned out ok and I was diagnoised with hypertention crisis. Which mimics a heart attack. I stayed over night at hospital for more test which all turned out fine. Doctor switched blood pressure medicine to Metoprolol 50 mg XL. The medicine brought my blood pressure down to 108 over 67. I have to wait unitl this cortisone shot wears off and then get back off blood pressure medicine.
I am on 4 1/2 weeks and been out of work. I am receiving physical therapy for muscle spasm over left lung causing all the chest pains and neck pain three times a week.
My foot is healed but I have had a bad reaction to cortisone and don't think I can ever get another shot again. I still feel like I am recovering from a stroke or a heart attack. Hoping the shot wears off soon. I guess cortisone is slow release and can last up to 4 to 6 weeks my body. Then I have to be careful and get off blood pressure medicine. I am convinced that cortisone shots can indeed impact your blood pressure.
What an experience....

I agree that steroid injections can cause BP to go up. Mine always goes up. I had si injections Monday and the nurse told me that sweating and insomnia are not side effects. She's wrong.

Yesterday I had GP check up and blood pressure was 130/79 and pulse rate 68. Now this afternoon I was given my first-ever cortisone shots, one in each wrist for carpal tunnel. At first I got tired and need an afternoon nap. Now it is 11pm and my heart has been pounding all evening 90 bpm like being on a treadmill. Blood pressure is 180/95 which is very high for me. Hoping that these side effects will go away soon and I will be able to sleep. Just took 2 baby asprin, 1mg ativan and 25 mg metoprolol to avoid going to ER and try to control the symptoms. Don't think I will ever accept getting two shots in one visit again.

Almost every injection has side effects more or less. What you do best for you to protect you or save you from those effects by making you more stronge. Issue with pressure meet a new revolutionary solution, magnesium. It's just like a MAGNESIUM MIRACLE.

I had a lumbar epidural 10 days ago and my blood pressure is still extremely elevated as of last evening, 200/104 and taking 3 times the amt of my normal blood pressure medicine. I called my physiatrist who gave me the injection and was told it was not due to the injection. When I called my internist that monitors my blood pressure, he said it was definitely a side effect of the steroid in the injection. He instructed me to increase my medication and call him w/my progress. Two days ago I had an appt for a full eye exam that was previously scheduled and was told my eye pressure (intraocular pressure) was extremely high as well. ( in the 30's) Normal is around 20. My eye physician who has taken care of me for over 20 yrs asked me if anything had occured recently to acct for the sharp rise in pressure. I told him I had been given an epidural and my blood pressure had been uncontrolled since I had it. He also told me the cortisone in the injection can make your eye pressure elevated. The pain clinics that give these injections do not want to admit that these are serious side effects that can occur with these shots. But to say that it was not from the shot irritated me despite 2 other specialists and multiple posts on line stating the same things occured is not right. Even if I had been told that "it might not be common but it could be from the injection" would have been a better answer than to deny it altogether. I just got the bill and now I know why they don't admit that. The charge was over $1,200.00 and I rec'd 2 shots. These were serious side effects I'm still dealing with and I am unable to get any more injections in the future per my internist. Food for thought and questions to ask if you're ever considering having one.

I am also glad I found this forum. After 8 months of dealing with the pain of PF, I finally decided to see a foot doctor. He quickly diagnosed PF and injected my Right Heel with cortisone. The injection was extremely painful while he was administering the cortisone, even though he numbed the area. Appointment was at 3 p.m. and by the time we got home at 5, I was already having a headache, blood pressure started to elevate from 145/89 to 191/100. I also, got cold and hot all over my body. I had to bump up blood pressure medications and finally around 1 a.m. it started to come down....not quite in normal range. I haven't slept all night. I still have a slight headache and buzzing in my head. I plan to call the doctor's office in the morning and inform him of these side effects. I don't ever plan on getting this injection again.
