I had a Depo-Medrol injection on 8/3/14 for poison ivy. The lady did not give it to me correctly. It has been almost three months and my periods were messed up and probbaly still are. I still hav epain in teh injection site and I also believe it stays in their forever. I did not know what I was getting when I got this shot. I thought it was just an allergy shot. Anyway had to take prednisone after this adn my life has never been teh same. Doctors will tell you it isn't this stuff an that it has already left your system BS. This stuff sticks like glue. Think twice before you ever get one of these. There is a website caleld kenalog never gain where tons of us have posted what has happened to us after cortisone shots. I have had several blood tests that are normal weeks after this stuff and tests that show nothing abnormla excpet for an ultrasound on my gallbladder that showed early gallstones and a fatty liver. I am mad thatthis was given to me without disclosing the any information about it . I am from Cincy Ohio

2 cortizone shots in my foot for heel spurs.... and the period after my 2nd injection I am now on day 19 of my period. I have always had heavy, long periods...usually 7 or 8 days but never more than 9. This period is very light, none of my usual cramping and absolutely no clotting which I have had for the past 2 or 3 years..dr. says because of my fibroid. I went to my GYN and told him about this forum, and he said we would hold off because he does think it is the cortizone causing it. He said something about it prevents blood coagulation. I had my pap smear a few months ago so he said we will hold off a couple more months on this. I said what if my period goes 2 more weeks..he said come in and we will do an ultrasound and more cancer testing, but he just feels confident it is from the cortizone. I just kind of wish I would not have mentioned the forum first, I kind of felt like I blindsided him, I didn't feel like he had heard of it but didnt' want to tell me he didn't know. He did seem to know about how cortizone works and how he understood how they could cause it. Had I just told him about the shots and didn't mention the forum, I wonder if he would have went ahead on the testing, so it makes me kind of nervous. So I went back and read the forum again this morning, and I really do think it is the shots. I sure do wish the medical community was aware of this... seems so weird that they do not...there are 11 pages of this forum alone with women having this side effect, so it must be a true side effect.

I forgot to mention in the post, the light period I am having has a lot of old brown blood, and on and off rotates with red blood. Also, I had an anxiety attack (we think it was) ...pretty bad one the night after my GYN visit. I am not sure if it was brought on by my fears over what was then a 14 day period...and the GYN wanting me in first thing the next morning... or if the shots are also increasing anxiety. My MD did an EKG wish showed some abnormalities, now he wants a stress test and echo just to make sure, but he still thinks it was an anxiety attack and says the cortizone shots could be causing the anxiety. He gave me anti anxiety pills which I don't want to take for long. It just seems like a couple of shots have brought on one problem after the other, like a snowball effect, if that is truly what is causing all this.

I recieved two cortisone injections within 2 weeks, in my lower back for sciatic nerve pain in my leg. The 2nd injection was given on the day I was due for my period. It is now 2 weeks overdue! Took a pregnancy test a week ago, but it was negative. Wondering if I will get my cycle or if you can get pregnant while having this medication in your system?? Any advice is greatly taken.

I received a cortisone shot in my wrist on January 20th due to having crossover tenosynovitis. I had started my monthly cycle on January 16th well last thursday January 29th I started spotting. I have always been regular with my cycles with NO BLEEDING in between and I'm now on day 8 of spotting. I called my OB/GYN and was asked about my thyroid to have it checked which I'm going for a physical with my PCP tomorrow. I am really convinced that it is due to the shot but how long can I expect this to last????? It's driving me NUTS!!!!!

I have had cortisone injections under xray into my facet joints 5 times. The first time, I missed a period, then had a period from hell, producing a large liver sized clot and lasting 4 weeks. I was told it couldn't possibly be related to the injection. Second time, similar occurance. Third time, The period went on for 8weeks, only minimal smear of bleeding, but annoying. Had to get hormone tablet from the doctor to stop it which gave me severe headache. Forth time, after a six week period, I went and got the hormone tablet to stop the period and had a very severe migraine. I have tried to put up with the back pain for several years without the injections. As I hadn't had a period for 6 months, I thought I was well into the menopause, so thought having the injections would be fine. The last 3 days, I have had painful period pains and a little bleeding. I cant believe it is not related to the injections!

I am experiencing the same symptoms. I had my first cortisone shot 2 weeks ago; within the hour leaving the doctor's office, I had spotting. It stopped after 2 days. After that, on week 2, I started to have heavy bleeding. Since I am 54, I stopped having regular periods for about 10 months. Now, all of a sudden, heavy bleeding. I honestly thought I had a miscarriage due to the heavy stuff coming out. Alarmed, I went to see my gyn, not thinking it was related to the cortisone shot. My gyn asked repeatedly if I was taking any medication. I told him about the cortisone shot 2 weeks ago and he indicated that my doctor should've mentioned that this happens often with women my age. My gyn did not seem concerned because he said unless I was changing my pad every 2-3 hours, he felt the bleeding was the side effect due to the shot.
