Cortizone injection side effects

Yeah I just got my first epidural shot for bulging disc in lower back. Haven't got hiccups in years. Today, i got my shot yesterday, I have been getting severe hiccups. Like others said I can usually hold breathe and they go away but not this time. I hope they go away soon its very annoying an even hurts a little.

I get cortisone injections in my left shoulder every 6 mos - 1 yr.

Without fail!  I get hic-ups within 24 hours. Last about another 24 hours.  I also have tightness in the chest (Shortness of breath) and indigestion..   Most go away in 24-48 hours.  A minor inconvenience compared to how much better my shoulder works!!

I had cortisone injections into both my shoulders on Friday and within a few hours the hiccups started. I thought this was just something I ate but it is now Sunday and I STILL have the hiccups. I found that drinking hot tea helps for about 30 minutes but then they start again. Glad to see I'm not the only one that has this unpublished side effect. I guess if they put in the reading material that you'd possibly get hiccups for 2-3 days, not many people would get the injections.

Just want to confirm what i read here - I haven't had the hiccups in 15 years, I received a cortisone shot yesterday and within 12 hours have had non stop hiccups.  So frustrating!!

On Tuesday, September 3, 2013 my 71 y.o. husband had a Lumbar Epidural Steroid injection L4-5 which brought his pain down from an "8" to a "2".  We were delighted with the results since he was not able to sit because of a bulging disc and spinal stenosis. The next day at mid-morning he developed hiccups. They would stop for a few minutes and start up again....all day and through the night.

They injected Bupivacaine and Depo Medrol.  I read a report on epidural steroid injections that said a man developed hiccups and it stopped spontaneously after 3 days.  So tomorrow will be 3 days and hopefully the hiccups will end.  It's rather annoying and tiresome. We were glad to see that he was not the only one affected this way....so now we know what caused it!!

i had cortizone injection for frozen shoulder and i got bad hiccup for a whole day and still not stop. cold food or water seems to quiet it for a while

I got a lumbar epidural injection one month ago.  About 9 hours later I had a bad bout of hiccups for about 2 hours.  I didn't think much of it.  I got anotehr injection yesterday.  About 9 hours later I had a bad bout of the hiccups for about 2 hours.  I am now, the next day,  in the middle of my third bout for today (4 bouts so far).  I have tried all the usual ways to stop them to no avail.  If I ever need another injection I am using this information to change the medication.  Just putting it out there to add to the data stream.

Wow I hit this one on the head. I got a cortisone injection yesterday in my knee after drawing off roughly 4cc of fluid (no big deal right). Around 8:30 last night I started with hiccups and they have been on and off since especially today. I've had at least five episodes and they last around 1/2 hr to 45 mins. My only remedy has been a tablespoon of sugar slowly desolving down my throat. Tommorrow I'm gonna try tums. Thanks for the comments on this matter, I'm an EMT and so I do alot of self dianogsis and I said to my partner on this shift "I'ts gotta be a correlation between the shot and acid reflux" BINGO IT'S THE SHOT!       

I got hiccups in 1988 from a cortisone shot in the spine which lasted 5 days. I have had several shots over the years since then with no reactions so I concluded it was something else. Got a cortisone shot in the knee yesterday. The knee feels better. I have had hiccups for the last 9 hours off and on. That is my two cents.

I have the same thing. Got a cortizone shot yesterday, hiccups started this morning. This happened the last 2 times I got a shot. The cortizone shot works great. I read on here there is a perscription. I just talked to the pharmacist it is chlorpromazine. Going to urgent care to get it and see how it goes. Let you know! The dr that gave me the shot said he never heard of such a thing.

I just had a cortisone injection yesterday.  I'm a 200 lb male so didn't expect many side effects.  I couldn't get to sleep last night after 8 hours of trying, I have an ongoing dull headache and I have had hiccups for 3 hours.  Fun.  On this thread someone suggested a spoonful of ice cream to get rid of them.  It actually worked.   Also chewing on crushed ice or ice cubes works too.   They come back but it seems to work each time.    Hope this helps.

how long did the hiccups last

Had mMy first steroid shot In  spine at T6-7 and 7-8 two days ago. Have been hiccuping since yesterday. Getting sore now the novelty has faded.  This sucks hard and intermittently.
