I can freely say that my kid, 13 year old son is one of the smartest kids I have known. I do not say this because he is my son, but because it is true. Yet, I worry for his health. It seems that he had this cystic hygroma since the day he was born. Doctors are mentioning surgery but I am frightened with the very idea that he must go under scalpel. Tell me what you know of this condition, please.

Well, cystic hygroma can be easily removed, if that method is applicable in your son's case. Since he had this abnormal tissue since the day one, there is a slight possibility that it connected with other, normal part of his body. In that case, surgery may not prove as a valid method of treating this condition. In that situation, there are therapies but their effectiveness is yet to be proven. I wish I had better news, but this is it.
