I am 40 yrs. old and was just diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis last week! I was diagnosed with severe Emphysema last month! I have always had breathing problems and problems with my stomach. I was put in the hospital about 5 months ago and was diagnosed with chron's disease! This was the excuse the dr's gave me for my many stomach problems! I was taken to the emergency room several times after this for the same problem, and it was always the same diagnosis! I had several dr's that told me they did not know what was wrong with me! I have had 5 lung infections this past summer, and was always put on an antibotic! These meds. would help some but really never got rid of the infection! I was visiting my dr. last month and she ordered several test on me and also ordered a genetic test on me! I never in a million years thought the test would come back positive for cystic fibrosis! I have a 23 yr.old son that was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was 3 yrs. old! I also had a half sister that passed away when she was 16 with cystic fibrosis! It was never an issue to me or my family to have me tested, I did not have the same symptoms that my son has or my sister had! We just always assumed that me and my son's father was a carrier! I have never heard of anyone being diagnosed at my age with cystic fibrosis, so needless to say I was in total shock! I just spent 6 days in the hospital, and I am now on several medicines and breathing treatments that my son takes! I used to be a smoker, I am now smoke free for two months! I pray everyday and fight this urge to have that cigarette, but I know I want to live the best possible life I can and be here as long as I can! My dr. said the reason my emphysema is so severe is because of the smoking plus me having cystic fibrosis! There are so many things that I tell myself I would of done different in my life, if I had of only known this years ago! My dr. gave me a book about being diagnosed with CF as an adult, if anyone has any more information I would appreciate any info. that you have! I am still in shock over this!
