Hi. I was diagnosed with asthma in my 40es. I am a spray painter and a doctor told me my asthma was caused by isocyanates. Is that possible? I work as a spray painter for 20 years and I have never had any kind of a problem due to my work.

Hi. Yes, it is possible to get asthma from isocyanates. Laboratory workers, crab processors, grain handlers and spray painters are at more risk of getting asthma than other people. There are many other causes of asthma, but nobody is sure what exactly makes your airways inflamed. My mother smoked during pregnancy and I have asthma because of that. I hate cigarettes and I avoid smoke as much as I can. I live in a big city and it is kind of a hard to avoid smog, but I am doing my best.
