I've just be diagnose with erythematous gastropathy, non bleeding. I have a great Doctor, one of the best but his Doctor/Patient communications need some work. He simply said the lining of my stomach is reddening. Huh what? No further enlightenment was offered.
What is this? Is it curable? More than this how do I live with this? I'm no superwoman but I have been able to handle some serious pain in my life. THIS, however, is awful. Can someone tell me what this is?

Kiana,
I really need to speak with you. Maybe we can help each other out. I have felt sicker than I have ever felt in my entire life during the last 4 weeks. I have been to the ER 4 times and to the gastroenterologist for a colonscopy and endoscopy and the only thing the doctors have been able to diagnose me with is "non-bleeding Erythematous Gastropathy" on the endoscopy whatever the heck that means and I'm still waiting for the results of the tissue sample they obtained from that (but it looks like it is coming up negative or they can't figure it out because they are in no rush to call me and let me know the results of the pathology report.)
This all started 4 weeks ago after I had eaten some food from the grocery store. I ate a whole Sundia watermelon that was a product of Mexico, some Kroger brand natural peanut butter (the kind you stir and then refridgerate), two Danon Probiotic Activa Yogurts which I have never ever had before in my life (can a probiotic make you ill???), two Danon regular "all natural" yogurts, and some other fruit and a little tuna. All the food from the same store.
That night, I started feeling a radiating heat from my abdomen and then I started feeling hot and cold chills going from my abdomen to my arms and legs. It was the first time I've ever felt this in my life and I got scared and kept drinking water and going to the bathroom to pee trying to flush out what I think was food poisoning. The next morning I went to an urgent care facility here in AZ and I told them I feel chills in my arms and my legs (hot and cold streaks). They did a blood test and didn't see anything and my vitals are fine as well as my temperature so they discharged me scratching their heads.
I then began to feel in addition to the chills, nausea, loss of appetite, bloating, and I was completely constipated. When I did go to the bathroom, out came undigested, white watermelon seeds which I must have ingested when I ate the "seedless" watermelon as well as some weird looking feces which looked partly undigested and reddish (watermelon?)... Also when they gave me the saline laxative to flush my system before the colonoscopy/endoscopy, I saw what appears to be tissue coming out of me that looks like the lining of my stomach or intenstines. It's a white tissue substance floating on the water that looks like a lining of something.
Anyways, this has also caused me to become scared/anxious and my head feels like it is burning up even though I don't have a fever. I had to use a laxative to move my system and only then when I actually go to the bathroom with either diahrrea or very thin stools does my head actually start feeling slightly better. The colonoscopy was normal other than small hemmhorroids that I have developed that are itching and burning and bleeding a little bit (but the doctor did something to stop them from bleeding -- burned them off or something but they still itch and burn after going to the bathroom and there are very very tiny spots of blood when wiping so unfornately I still have to use medwipes and Prep H)..although this is the least of my problems right now.
I ended up going to the ER 4 times trying to get help (what a mistake) and the only thing they could come up with after all their tests was that I was constipated and they think I have some type of gastrointestinal virus which they refuse to screen for because they say they only screen viruses if you are admitted.
It is now 7/17/07 and this started on 6/15/07 and I am still sick as a dog. Turns out when I am on a liquid diet of ensure shakes only, I feel okay at the end of the day and can get to bed and my head doesn't kill and I don't feel like I'm poisoned all over my body. But as soon as I introduce any solid food at all during the day (even a little bit), I end up feeling ill at the end of the day and my head feels like it is burning up and I feel poisoned all over my body.
I am going through hell right now not knowing what is happening to me. The only thing that helps is sitting in a very hot hottub when this is happening to me. After I finally go to bed and sleep for a few hours, do I feel a little better. When my stomach goes down from the bloating and constipation and I can finally move something in the morning, then my head starts feeling a little better although I still feel numb in my head.
It seems like my digestive system has malfunctioned in some odd way and the doctors have no idea what the cause is. I really feel I should be in the hospital under close observation so they can take the correct tests at the correct times when I'm starting to feel really ill at night. I know this has something to do with my GI but I can't put a finger on it.
If anyone is going through something similar please contact me at *** and let me know if you happened to get diagnosed correctly.
Symptoms:
=======
Started with Chills in arms in legs radiating from abdomen
Nausea but NO vomiting
Constant Bloating/GAS and Constipation (esp. after eating anything solid) and when using laxatives diahhrea or thin stools or pebbles
Loss of Appetite and having to remember to eat
Feeling of heat / pain in head which sometimes gets lessened if you can
go to the bathroom but if not, gets very intense usually starting an hour or two before your usual bed time or at night...the heat and pain seem to be initiated in the stomach in my opinion but they end up making your whole body feel like you are poisoned and just a general sense of ickiness all over (hard to describe exactly)
NO FEVER, VITALS OKAY, Blood tests are fine, metabolic panels return negative
Pain in UPPER GI / (I woke up twice with a burning pain in what I felt was my stomach but turns out I don't have an ULCER or H.Pylori)
Sometimes feel tenderness in sides/back but mostly pain in the stomach area (top left below breast bone or center)...sometimes also some pain in top right but doesn't persist.
Insomnia and trouble sleeping
Drinking Ensure shakes and eating an entirely liquid diet is the only thing which helps you not be in pain at night. Eating solid foods of any kind irritates you and you end up feeling toxic and in major head pain at night, bloated and reconstipated which makes sleeping difficult. But you feel sligthly better in the morning and during most of the daytime hours although your head might still feel numb.
Possibly Ears clogged and hurting (mine do and not one doctor has peeked inside my ears for signs of infection)
Doctors can't figure you out and you may have some anxiety because of this illness and so they feel you have an anxiety disorder and try to medicate you with drugs like Adivan which only mask your GI symptoms which continue on Adivan or not. If anything you know that you were fine before all this started and there is something definitely medically wrong that has caused you to be anxious esp. since the doctors can't figure it out and you still feel terribly ill.
Well, that's what I'm going through right now and I just want to get better and be okay and back to normal. I have never ever felt this sick in my entire life and I'm a young guy, only 32, and hardly ever got sick before this started and was watching my weight and everything so none of this makes sense to me.

Hi, My wife seems to have some of the same symptoms you have. Have you gotten any answers yet?
Thanks, Eddie

First try to lower your simple carbs, and do everything in your power to get a solic digested stool. try to use essential Fatty Acids (flax oil is fine), get many digestive enzymes(can be supplemented, alfalfa, B Complex, B12 losenges, Fiber supplement with equal proportion of soluble and insoluble fiber included(take first thing in morning and do not take anything else for an hour after or before taking fiber. The enzymes and EFA's will help to break down the food, possibly use a squeezed lemon during a meal to see if that helps get rid of the undigested food?

I too have many of the same symptoms, however I do not have the stomach issues you have. I have no problem going to the bathroom. But I haven't felt "right" now for over 2 months, and I too am desperate to have back my energy and feel "normal" again. They have run blood tests, all appear to be fine. I had a endoscopy and they diagnosed me with the erthematous gastropathy like you have, I am still waiting for the biopsy results. But symptoms have been chest pain (where my heart would be- ekg came back fine), nausea that comes and goes, pressure in my ears is the newest, a temp of 99.5 that comes and goes, lightheadedness, but I also feel like my head and ears are burning up, and just a general yucky feeling where all I want to do is sit. Doctors do not seem to be concerned, as my limbs are not falling off and I do not run a fever over 101, but I am so tired of feeling tired and sick all the time. I too, am only 35, I want to feel good again. I have two children who need me to have more energy! Please tell me if you have had any resolution.

I have the same sympotms as Kiana and stomachlining - including ear infections and popping, fluctuatidng temp and blood pressure, extreme stomach and pelvic (?) pain. I also have a very small cyst in my uterus and mild diverticulosis. Do the doctors know what's causing the extreme pain? I don't think so. I'm 59 so "female" problems are more prevalent. I take too many antidepressants, drink for pain management and sleep, and have panic attacks. Agoraphobia can be a problem. Fibromyalgia is a big component. There's some sort of correlation here. Can we figure it out?? Probably better than the wrong tests! How were your byopsies? Did you try a high fiber or other diet? please write. ?

Sounds like a GI parasite to me. The thing is, anxiety makes the condition worse. Try going to your local Health Foods Store and getting a protease and carbolic acid antiparasitic. Take that for at least 2 weeks. This will kill off any parasites in your GI tract. You will also need to supplement this treatment with acidophilus or bifidobacterium cultures. The antiparasitic will kill off your "good" intestinal flora along with the parasite and you will need to replenish these flora. You should also supplement this with CandidaStop, as candidiasis seems plausible and may be a contributing factor to your condition. CandidaStop will reduce the proliferation of the candida fungas in your system. Good Luck!

- I have the same systoms. however, i do not have the pain. So far all my test have come back normal too. So i was diagnosed with bipolar and digestive something or other. it seems that when your symptoms cannot be explained and all test and vital signs are normal most doctors diagnose you with some kind of psych disorder. in doing reserach on all the medication i am on for the bipolar and others, i found that an inbalance in your endocrine system and other glandular systems regulate all hormones in your body and believe me there are a lot. an inbalance in any one of these glands has a ripple affect on the body. the glandular systems rely on on the plus or minus amounts of hormones released at the right time to have the hormonal balance that results in good health. some of the glandular systems are: endocrine system which consist of the adrenal glands located over each kidney, pituitary gland located in the brain and the hypathalmus also located in the brain. another system is the thyroid located in the neck and the digestion system. also very important the Nervous system. that is just to name a few. for more information google glandular systems and find out just how many there are. you will be surprised at how delicate they are and how they regulate everything in our bodies and just how much their harmonious function affects whether we enjoy a healthy body or not. again if the function of these systems is disrupted, compromised or removed (even though you can live with just one such as kidney or none such as thyroid and reproductive system, then that would require medication, which would be another chemical entering the body compromising the delicate hormonal balance and depending on how well your system can accept it, can cause various diseases ranging from mild to fatal. example: high blood pressure, diabetes, liver and kidney failue and many others. please research further. when these systems are in check some if not most and in some cases all medication can be discontinue. however when there is misdiagnosis, such as in depression and related psycological disorders, the medication itself can cause most of the symptoms that are listed by so many of you. so you see it is kind of like which came first the chicken or the egg. you must be adomate in requesting your doctor not just to treat your symptons with all the various kinds medications. please ask if there could be the possibility of an underlying condition. research your symptoms yourself so you can know just what questions you should be asking your physcian. without searching diligently for the possible underlying cause. you might continue to suffer from your undiagnosed condition. even though you may find the likely cause and what test to ask for, DO ASK THE QUESTION, 'DO YOU THINK [YOUR FINDING} COULD POSSIBLY BE THE PROBLEM? if the answer is yes, he probably order test if there is one for that condition to rule it out or to rule out possible other underlying causes. IF NO,BEWARE, OR HIS ANSWER DOES NOT MATCH YOUR RESEARCH AND THE DOCTOR IS NOT FORTH COMMING, WITH ANY OTHER POSSIBILITIES OR TEST.
THEN PERHAPS YOU SHOULD SEEK ANOTHER PHYSIAN. (only my opinion)
Remember HE is the doctor so tread lightly and careful how you ask or suggest anything. you don't want to put him on the defensive or insult his inteligance. Just that you want to take an active part in your health and want to do everything possible to achieve the best of health.
also something else to consider if you are one of the millions of people who have amalgum fillings in your mouth be warned that amalgum is mercury and mercury is extremely toxic and there is no safe level. epa banned the release of mercury in our air, but allows our dentist to put it in our mouth, which by the way everytime contact is made, via brushing your teeth, cleaning, flossing and when the dentist drills. it releases the mercury gas. in small amounts our glands and organs which are responsible for riding our bodies of toxins and waste, liver and kidneys, are able to be successful in eliminating it for a while. however, depending on the amount of exposure it can sooner rather than later be fatal or cause some irreversable damage. in the case of alagum fillings the build up is slower and it can take years for the effects to be felt. but be assured you will EVENTUALY suffer the effect!
Please, I am NOT a doctor, but I AM one who believes in research and asking questions. I DO NOT believe in ONE opinion. I DO believe in finding out the reason symptom present and NOT just treating them without finding out why. These findings I share so that all who read may be enlighten and can make a more informed decision on their health issues. I do believe in being informed and that knowledge is power.
This information in no way is ment to take the place of your doctor. If anyone has been offended, I do SINCERLY APPOLOGIZE! For any physicians who may read this, it is not my intention to insult your intelligence, imply you are inadequate or apathetic toward the treatment of your patiences. I realize that too much information for some patience can be stressful and some only wish to know the final diagnosis and not what might be suspected. Again please accept my Sincere Appology if you have been offended or insulted in any way.
I realize this is a very lengthly blog, however, I really hope this information is helpful and well received.

I am very sorry that I never got back to posting on this thread but here is essentially what it turned out to be at least for me.
An Ear Infection from swimming in a community pool. Yeah I couldn't believe an Ear Infection could possibly do all this and more!!! I should have more attention to some of the little kids I knew who had ear infections from the same pool and I didn't think about it...
Untreated ear infections can cause massive misery and even ultimately infect your brain if left long enough!!! Check those ears immediately if you even suspect you have one or a double like I had!
I didn't realize I had an ear infection that started in my left ear. The ear infection caused me to have a very, very small temperature (one that didn't alert ER doctors to anything and didn't show up on blood tests which is very odd) and one that spread to my other ear and to my sinuses and because I wasn't paying attention to the fact that my ears had a clogged feeling, I was walking around with this infection for weeks till I couldn't sleep and the lack of sleep caused severe anxiety. That anxiety put a complete halt to my digestive system (literally closed down my stomach for business) causing a painful backup and constipation and then I couldn't eat. Essentially my body had become a wasteland for toxins since my body was not getting rid of them. Even the doctors couldn't understand why I was so constipated and messed up...
It took me 4 ER visits including a massive panic attack at one of those hospitals honestly feeling that I was going to die any minute and weeks of massive anxiety, not being able to sleep or eat, and my head feeling it was going to explode when I finally realized my ears were clogged this entire time and not a single doctor ever checked my ears or looked in my mouth (that's doctors for you today -- they assume what you tell them is the problem instead of being thorough...
Since my stomach was hurting me the most at the time they only checked that and ran tests for that instead of looking in my ears and looking in my mouth to start from scratch. Hospitals are all about running tests and billing. They are the worst place to go in all honesty for things like this. Better to go to your GP.
Went to an urgent care doctor for the final time and told them to look in my ears. I had some foreign bodies in there (it was disgusting what was pulled out and it was all infected) and I had fluid behind both ears and was put on antibiotics immediately. Antibiotics I should have been on 6 weeks previous. Penicillin didn't work so I had to take something stronger like Zithromax. Also I ended up having fluid stuck in my middle ears for months afterwards.
Previous to finally figuring this out, all the doctors were useless and I had to finally diagnose myself. I was actually called crazy and told I need psychiatric help and prescribed anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds and was even rejected from being seen by some doctors during all this. The medical bills ended up being close to 15 grand for all the unnecessary tests the ER doctors ran since they were all clueless.
They should all be very ashamed of themselves to even call themselves doctors! The things that I experienced and witnessed at the ER's here are horrendous not just for me but for others who had worse things happening to them. This country #1 needs an overhaul of the medical system and how people are treated, and #2 all these doctors need to go back to medical school and learn how to diagnose properly or not get paid (at least in this state and area of the USA!!!). Not to mention the entire insurance company mess!! Insurance companies are scumbags who enjoy collecting and increasing premiums but not paying out claims when people need them paid..."Sicko" is a very true movie and if you haven't seen it, you should. Makes me want to move to France like yesterday. We are not living in the greatest country in the world I'm sorry to say. Not with a medical system like this!
Some of the doctors I saw need to be plain out fired for how they treated me (horrible bedside manners!) and what they said to me not to mention the one who yelled at me because I disagreed with his diagnosis.
Turned out I had to diagnose myself ultimately. How sad is that???
I met a foreign worker during all this that also went to the ER and got an incorrect diagnosis and was given the wrong medications-->medications which permanently damaged him. All he needed was a simple med and a simple diagnosis. Instead his life is now ruined and even with an operation, his prognosis is terrible. He wants to commit suicide from the chronic pain he is in now and wishes he had never come to America for the temporary work in the first place because the medical system here (at least in this state and area of the US) in his words "is the worst he's ever seen in his life". He was also treated horribly not only in the ER but also at the specialists he saw.

You may want to ask for a gastric emptying test. I too was diagnosed with this by doing a scope and haven't gotten the pathology yet. Since I was diagnosed with gastroparesis, I think the diagnosis has something to do with that. If you have gastroparesis, the details you gave for symptoms fit this disorder to a tea. I have been battleing all the same symptoms and at least have a disorder tied to it. Unfortunately, you have to adjust your diet and take medication for it. I am on a liguid diet which includes the boost shakes, fruit cups and applesauce. I have yet to know if I will be like this for the rest of my life. Reglan has worked very little for me. Sometimes antibiotics make the symptoms go away for awhile but they all returned after a couple of months time til I was properly diagnosed.Good Luck

I have reactive gastrophy similar symptoms and endoscopy reveled thaat the stomach does not work properly so the bile from the liver puts it in the stomach at the wrong time and takes a long time for food to pass through. My gallbladder was removed because of not working. Look up reactive gastrophy of mucosa and Motility problem and it may help you understand. I have been suffering for a long time myself and do not have any answers as to what to do as it is something that happens.
