I am reading through these posts and it is both encouraging but discouraging at the same time....Here is my story....1st shot november 2003...last shot july 2005 pregnant march 2006 healthy baby in November 2006....No problems and quick pregnancy....well this time around...1st shot was october of 2010....last shot was july of 2011...Got my period back in jan 2012 and it has been regular ever since then....The problem is my husband and i have been trying to concieve since i got off the shot in July of 2011...It is now March 2013 and nothing....It has been very upseting to both of us for almost 2 yrs now...month after month afte month...i am 29 yrs old now and my husband 26...we really wanted another child. I have lessened stress and tried not to think about it because everyone said that was the problem....but it is not...its the shot!!! Recently (and i think it is because my husband is just as discouraged as me) my husband told me he didnt want to try anymore and if it didnt happen by the end of this year that one of us is getting "fixed" .....this thought absolutely breaks my heart.... the thought of us not having another child is not one i want to have....and i dont think i am ready to make that decision. He says he doesnt want it to happen when we are 40 because nothing happened all this time and we just thought it wouldnt happen....i need advice...should we give up now? should i find some way to make peace with the fact that we will never have another child and be happy with what i have? I just cant get the switch to flip to that side.....

i only had one shot of depro.. in nov 2012 it ended in feb 2013 i regretted taking it as soon as i read more about it, the doctor was very slack and handed me the leaflet to read just before he jabbed me :/. I def suggest ppl only use it if you dont mind waiting a long time to get pregnant and the side affects were HORRIBLE... headaches, mood swings... depressive states, tired all the time always felt sick. I never went back on the shot at my 3rd month, i got my period back a month after it ended and then another period now 30 days after that, looks like my hormones may be regulating early than i expected but still not sure if im ovulating. I think everyones bodies are different..i have not tried to get pregnant in the last 2 months of being off it but will try this month fingers crossed!

I too believe my infertility might be a byproduct of taking this medication. I am now 40 and still no babies :(

I took the Depo-Provera shot when I was 16 in January of 2004. About a week after the injection I started bleeding and didn't stop until the middle of may. I bled for 3 and 1/2 months straight, heavy and painful. I lost a ton of weight and have suffered from extremely painful and heavy periods ever since. My OB gave me 'premarin' a estrogen pill to help stop the bleeding. He said in 3 months we'll take the next shot and it should stop and I shouldn't have another period. I took the next shot but the bleeding worsened. He upped my dosage of the estrogen to make it stop but taking that many hormones at age 16 made me an emotional lunatic. Ever since I stopped depo I have had migraines, irregular and painful periods, extreme pain in my hips almost daily, dismenoria primary & secondary, as well as endometriosis. But the worst side-effect of all is I am 24 and though I haven't used any form of birth control since, have never been pregnant. My uterine wall has been severely thinned making it impossible for me to carry without bedrest. Why is this drug not on recall?!?!?!

I am 23 and I took 1 shot of the depo when I was 19 after I had my daughter, I have been told by my obgyn that the depo can cause women to not be able to have babies, I have not had a period since I got the depo. I was told I could go to a fertility specialist for to try to have another baby, but what good will that do me when I worked with my doctor to try to get periods back for over two years. My hope for a big family has been shattered, but I am thankful for the amazing little girl I have, she is my world, it just breaks my heart though when she asks me when I am going to have her a baby brother or sister, I wish I could but I have been made to face the reality that I cannot have another child. Good Luck to you all and I hope it is not the case for any of you.

When my mother was in her late 20s, she had two Depo shots, and with the second shot her period began to lighten a lot, so she got worried and decided not to get anymore shots. I believe she got her period a few more months after that and then never again. She is in her 40s now. The doctors told her she was going through menopause, which when you think about it a woman in her late 20s should not be going thorough, and that heritability determines this. However, her mother had her last kid when she was in her 40s, both of her older sisters still get their periods and her younger sister who is 35 at this point still gets her period. The only thing my mother did differently than any of her sisters was the Depo shots, and we both believe that was the cause of it. No woman should go through menopause that early in her life, and not be able to have kids. As much as I hate to sound like I am preaching, but for these younger girls it is very important to try to avoid taking any pills, shots, patches, whatever, if they are planning to have kids when they get older, because the possibility that you may become infertile does exist and increases the longer you take it. There are other forms of birth control (condoms, spermicide, diaphragm) that are only in your system for the hour or two you spend having sex and don't have long-lasting side-effects. Every year I see a new form of birth control on the news, saying it caused this and that in all these wonderful women and it is horrible. To look at it on an even greater scale, we will all probably taking pills and getting shots all of the time that are "helping" our bodies, yet somehow poisoning them as well, why start this early in our lives. Anyways, that's my rant, sorry if I offended anybody, but I just wanted to share my opinion and story, and yeah I am definitely staying away from this shot or any high-dose birth control out there, at least for as long as I want to have children.

I was on Depo from 26-32years of age. I stopped in 2006 becasue i was told that 5 years was just about the recommended limit. I have not had any contriceptives since. After years of not conceiving I have now been told I have very few eggs left in my ovaries. I have a period whenever my body feels like giving me one. Approx 1 every 3 months.
If you have a regular period this does not mean you are ovulating. Buy tests from the pharamacy to self check for ovulation. If there is no ovulation for 3 months you must go to see your doctor. You need your 'AMH' and 'FSH' levels checking at a private clinin I paid £200 for this as the UK Health service does not provide these tests at all unless you are going through IVF. These tests tell you if you have any eggs left in your ovaries and approx how many. I have put my infertility down to Depo. I start IVF in the next few weeks.
I wait for a court case about Depo. I am so certain that they are wrong and we are right. How can so many of us be all in the same dilema???

I am 14 and I took the depo shot a month ago. I haven't gotten my period yet but I'm wondering if I should keep getting the depo shot because I don't want to have fertility problems in the future. To me it's a good thing to not have my period but I dont want any problems in the future.
Can you help me decide.....

they are suggesting you go to a fertility clinic and pay for expensive tests, drugs and possibly, IVF. Your family doctor cannot do this stuff.
