I'm 25 years old, when I was in my teens I was on depo for several years. I've been off of birth control for 4 years and actively trying for over a year to get pregnant. Still nothing. :(

ANY form of LARC ( long acting reversible contraception) could cause a loss of infertility depending how long you had or could of been infertile before even going on birth control and didn't know..  And Depo Prrovera isn't the most effective form.. Nexplanaon is

Been off for almost two years. No periods. Plenty of crazy pregnancy like symptoms (including 3 months daily vomiting, hormonal mood swings, etc).

I take a pregnancy test every week and a half to two weeks because I don't get periods, wouldn't know right away, and would want to take better care of my body.

Depo almost cost me my marriage. I wish there was any way to make them make things right.

My story is this- I only received two doses of depo 5 years ago. I quickly realised this was not a route I wanted to take. I gained so much weight it was gut wrenching. I felt sick and completely off. I also was an emotional wreck. 2 years later me and my wonderful husband started to try and make a family however it has been unsuccessful and depressing as hell. I have had 4 and a half years to fully recover and detox from this medication and I'm still infertile. I was diagnosed with PCOS in January and am hopeful that diet and medication can help. I do not blame this medication entirely but I absolutely believe that it has done some damage.

I went on the depo when I was 16 for 4 and half years, I'm now 33 and nothing!! I know its the depo thats f##ked me up! It wasnt till yesterday I saw all these other comments from women who are struggling after the depo! It cant be a coinsidence and something should be done about it or woman should be warned!! My friend at work went on the depo a couple of month ago and the doctor asked her if she was planning on having more children in the future and she said no. He then told her "we dont like you being on the depo for longer than a year if u still want children"

I totally agree with you. I was also on the depo shot for 8 years. Before I was having a normal period and my weight was under 150. Because of the shot I started to gain weight fast and started having multiple migraines like 2 or more a month. After I got off the shot my period didn't return for almost 3 years. I called the local clinic where I had gotten the shot originally and they told me it was normal. The nurses kept telling me this every 3 months I would call saying it was normal to not have a period after stopping depo. This kept continuing for the last 5 years. I'm sorry but to me this is not normal. Because of the depo messing up my hormones I had a gall bladder attack so bad that it had to be removed. My surgeon said it was because of my hormone imbalance because I was (according to him) to young (28 years old) to be needing that surgery. Then recently (last November 2017) I was diagnosed with pcos. I was devistasted. (There is no report of this in my family) Because me and my boyfriend want children and now I'm afraid we won't. I don't understand how someone can make a drug and not be sure of all it's side effects. There should be a lawsuit against them because I have read posts and threads of the same thing happening to other women as well. Something must be done it's ruining women's lives and for most scarring them because they may not be able to have children. I'm not a doctor but I do know and feel this is unethical.

I'm so happy u finally had a baby. I took deposit once and almost bled out. Then started having problems and never took it again. They tried to diagnose me with pcos as well and I am currently taking metformin. I am 37 yrs old and still no children. I am trusting God for my mirace baby. I too think deposit is awful.

This is my situation almost to a t. I got my first depo shot at 17, after an hour of trying to pee in a cup for pregnancy test and failing( I'm pee shy) the doctor got impatient said " you're not pregnant i can tell" and gave me the shot. Well a month later i was in the hospital for emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy and clomid. I was internally bleeding and two days from death. My life has never been the same. Ten years later I'm still trying to conceive and nothing. Every day i grow more hopeless and have become suicidal. I have only ever wanted to be a mom and because of that doctor i lost the one kid i have ever conceived. I'm 28 happily married and can't take that next step and become a real family. Nothing has filled that hole in my life, not pets or friends or working at a daycare. I will probably not ever be able to afford adoption and now im just going crazy and don't know if life is worth living anymore. The one thing that helps is my supportive husband but even he admits he'll never know how i feel or truly understand the pain. I tell him he's too good for me and to go have a happy life with someone else but he stays by my side. My family tries to help but most of them tell me I'm lucky and that kids are a pain in the butt which only makes it worse because i get so angry at them taking for granted the one precious thing that matters in life. I can't see family births or happy families without it sending me into a deep depression. I hate that one medication can ruin my whole life. f**k Pfizer (sorry for language ladies. )

My daughter was on the Depo Provera shot only long enough for 3 shots. That was 2 years ago. She had nothing but problems since. She went from 110 lbs to obese! She weighs more than 250 lbs. She’s missed periods for months at a time. At this point, June, she hasn’t had a period since last October. She’s been going to the dr and was finally just diagnosed with PCOS!! I’ve been telling her for months that the Depo Provera is causing all her issues. I’m extremely sad and upset about this happening to my girl! She hasn’t been married a year and is finding out she may not be able to ever have children.
