Hey guys, I have had an external hemorrhoid that is thrombosed for the last 3 months. I have an appointment with a surgeon next week. I am hoping he/she can excise and remove the clot on an out-patient basis, but I read a few places online that excision isn't usually done if the clot has been present for more than 72 hrs because the pain from excision is worst than the hemorrhoid.
But I feel the pain will probably be temporary and eventually subside, unlike this hemorrhoid that has been present for 3 months. Anyone have any experience or thoughts about this? Thanks.

The pain will be insane after the surgery, well, actually worse than having the hemorrhoid, and yes, it will start subsiding in a couple of weeks if your surgery is successful.
You must stick to a high fiber diet without any food irritants like caffeine and acidic stuff throughout the recovery period in order to alleviate the pain.
