I'm 12 and today, I found a dark red wet patch on my underwear. I showed it to my mom and she told me that I had my first menstruation, but my pee is still yellow like before. I'm confused because when I wipe, it's a little bloody. Since I pay attention in HG&D, I learned about the hymen and I'm not sure I broke it instead. Right before I went to the restroom to discover the patch on my underwear, I was sitting hard on the edge of my chair.

Can someone tell me if I broke my hymen or is it really my menstruation?

(I didn't feel any pain in my lower belly, around where the ovaries are. There is also barely any blood on the pad that I put on.)

(This is still the same person).

(I meant discharge when I said blood. I just checked my pad again--that was from a few hours ago but I didn't have an account then--and there is more, but little, discharge. It is reddish brownish in color.)

I feel a slight to moderate pain in my vaginal area, but not on my lower belly. There is more blood when I wipe now, but none in my pee.

don't even worry about it hun, it's more or less sounds like you have your period.
i'd just like to say, there WILL NOT be blood in your pee ever, your pee and your period blood come out of 2 different holes.

Just to reinforce the previous response you sound to be having a normal period.
Don't worry at all - we all get different amounts of pain during or before menstruation and different amounts of discharge and it may take quite a while before your periods settle down to anything really regular.

It sounds like you're pretty sure that you might have torn your hymen, since you have told us in no uncertain terms that you were sitting on the hard edge of your chair.

It seems pretty unusual to have some much weigh on that location, but I'm wondering if you were trying to do something else.

I yield to the experience of t he other women on the board, and they seem to think that you're experiencing the first period. I'd recommend that you talk with your mother again, or perhaps the school nurse. It sounds like there's some things about where a period comes from and what it means that you're still foggy on.

Good luck. And keep more pads on hand.
