Glucose tolerance tests is used to make the diagnosis of diabetes. Diabetes presents unregulated and elevated level of blood glucose. Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is performed after an overnight fast. In the morning a patient drinks a solution of certain concentration of glucose. Blood is obtained before the patient takes the glucose solution. Measuring of the glucose level of blood is repeated again every 30 to 60 minutes, for up to 3 hours. If blood glucose level is increased diagnose type 2 diabetes or gestational diabetes can be diagnosed.
