I broke my foot almost 2 yrs ago, heel bone and had terrible pain before and after the surgery because I was on subaxone and never told anyone. I am a health care provider and I'm too embarrassed to tell my surgeon that I'm taking it. I know alot of the medical staff at the hospitals here. I need to have another surgery on my foot. Saw the surgeon today and he scheduled me for next week! I remember the horrible pain I had the first time and I'm scared. I'm so alone and can't tell anyone what I'm going through. I have dealt with chronic pain since I broke my foot and have been managing with motrin and 2-4mg of subaxone a day since the first surgery. Have large screws and messed up achilles tendon that badly needs repair but been dreading the pain. Please help. Idk what to do and I'm scheduled for surgery next week. I'm so scared and embarrassed to tell anyone. I don't want to be treated like a drug s.

Are you scared of being put on different pain killers or just that they might not be effective because of the sub?

You shouldn't be scared to tell the MD because if you have had chronic pain it is normal to have something to make your quality of life better be that drugs or surgery which you are doing both of.  Pain killers are natural for pain and for it's intended use.  Have you been abusing them within this time of taking them?  If not, there should be no reason for anyone to suspect you of being a drug seeker.

There are other pain killers out there that will work for you and telling your doctor is a step in the right direction.  You and him/her will have to experiment on which ones work.  Also, the anesthesiologist will have to know for the right drug to give you or not give you because of the sub.

Don't be scared it'll all turn out for the good, just be honest.  Good luck!  I'm at home recovering from a surgery 7 weeks ago.
