Hello everyone,

As the title says my Grandad has been ill since Christmas and despite ongoing tests, they have yet to find an answer. He came down with virus like symptoms (headache, light headedness, tiredness, loss of appetite, joint pain, heavy night sweats, temperature) and also discoloured urine. He went to health centres and was given antibiotics, which cleared up the urine problem and he slowly improved on many of the symptoms. To this day though he is still lacking energy, lacking appetite and is light headed. He tells me the night sweats stopped weeks ago, but he feels totally drained all the time. He has also lost over a stone in weight...although he is a big real ale/beer drinking and stopped drinking when he got ill.

He has had numerous blood tests which so far showed his prostate, liver and pancreas values were out of whack. He since had a prostate exam and kidney scan which found the prostate is a little enlarged, but they were not concerned. He doesn't get the liver and pancreas tests for 3-4 weeks from now, although he goes in for a brain scan next week. So far all they have found is that he is anemic.

I have no faith in the NHS and worry they are just shooting in the dark running random tests, with weeks of waiting inbetween. Could all of this be down to acute or chronic anemia?..they have offered no iron supplments or vitamin b12 shots etc. Or could this be something worse? i.e. leukemia, lymphoma, cancer? Would those things have been found by now?...he has had at least 3 different sets of blood tests.

That I know of he has no lumps, says he has had no stool problems, no stomach or back back pain and certainly no jaundice.

I have been going out of my mind with worry and although as mentioned many of the symptoms have disappeared some weeks back, he is now skinny, drawn and drained all of the time. Any insight here would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Dan
