New study found that squeezing lime in a cup of green tea is a good idea because vitamin C from citruses enables antioxidant’s from tea to remain after digestion and make the combination even healthier. Natural antioxidants in tea are called catechins and the study found that vitamin C increases the amount of it that body can absorb.

Catechins from green tea seems to have an influence in reducing risk of cancer, heart attack and stroke and what is very important is that they are very unstable in non acid environment such as intestines so citrus juice increases level of catechins more than five times.

Lemon juice causes 80% of catechins to remain in body after digesting. Researchers say that vitamin C form citruses interact with catechins in order to prevent degradation in the intestines and because of that the combination of citrus and green tea is of great importance.
