There is no known cure for Guillain Barre Syndrome, an auto-immune disease. The disease can be treated with plasma exchange or immunoglobulin g infusion. The first 3 weeks are the most difficult as the patient may be completely paralyzed. Most patients will eventually regain most functions. Recovery time can range from weeks to years. Ask the doctor to estimate how long she will remain paralyzed. You can then tell her what to expect, and this will give her something to look forward to.
