My husband recently had heart surgery to repair a hole in his heart and also scar tissue surrounding the heart.  His recovery has been slow with complications such as fluid on the lungs and infection in his body.  Right now the doctors are treating this with antibiotics.  My concern is he is currently sedated and has not been able to speak due to the tube in his mouth.  At one point he was connected to life support to help his heart and oxygen supply to the body.  Today I spoke to one of the doctors and they wanted to remove the tube, but his breathing does not support this at this time.  The doctor suggested doing a tracheostomy procedure.  This would allow him to breathe better.  I am really concerned with this procedure, can you please advise me on what I should do?
