I am 47 and have had my period for over 3 weeks. I have had ultrasounds and a uterine biopsy which all came back with nothing of concern. The doctor is telling me my options are ablation, hormone therapy or IUD. I definitely will not do the IUD or Hormone Therapy. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 40 and died at 47. I don't want anything hormone related that would increase my breast cancer risk. I have been taking a nonhormonal drug called Lysteda during my cycles for heavy bleeding and it works great but is only taken the first 5 days of your period. Does anyone have any other suggestions other than the three options the doctor gave me? My periods are very heavy with flooding and large clots. They also last 7 plus days with the exception of this one that is already over 3 weeks (started Nov 2nd). Could this be the start of perimenpause? I am wondering what others experience has been and what they have done.
