How long should I expect it to take for scrotal bruising to dissipate following laparoscopic inginual hernia surgery. My entire scrotal sac is a deep deep blue/black, but fortunately, the swelling is not severe anymore. My surgery was 6 days ago today. unfortunately, I missed out on the instructions to support EVERYTHING with boxer briefs/jock/etc. and wound up with some pretty impressive bruising and swelling for a couple of days, until my surgeons office called to check up on me and mentioned those "tips" in passing. Wow, do I wish they had that on the discharge instructions!

Hi honey! Testicles - as you know - are VERY sensitive! There are also surrounded by blood vessels, so when you ahve surgery on any sensitive area - and let me tell ya they aren't tender with everything - then you will have swelling and bruising will show up right away and then later - due to the bruising coming to the surface! Did they tell you to ice the area, obviously you missed out on the support! I would think that around now you should see a difference in the color of the bruise - when it starts going green yellow it is going to be gone shortley! Everyone is different, and you have probably set yourself back a bit - due to them not telling you about the support - but just know the swelling is temporary! ICE and support! Good luck and health!

When I had a vasectomy I was in bed for a week with a scrotum the size of a softball and all black and blue. Ice packs on top and a pillow underneath. I couldn't tolerate any covers laying on me so I was laying in bed naked and spread wide. You should have seen all my wifes girlfriends who came to offer sympathy. Her 14 year old sister was here every day to help her take care of me. My wife didn't mind bringing them in to visit (see?) me at all.
My co-worker who had it done before I did, was back at work the afternoon after the surgery and had no ill effects at all.

Thanks for the words of encouragement...and hope! Not sure the naked and spread on the bed idea would fly with our household. But, a visual attempt at garnering sympathy might at least increase the sense of humor. I have to say that the release instructions I received really missed the boat on the ice and support suggestions. They were much more concerned with the incision areas in their instructions than the areas that I am more concerned with! ;-)

Doctors don't worry about bruising, they are just worried about infection! A bag of frozen peas is the best - with a cloth inbetween the skin and the peas - as this can be VERY harsh on your sensitive skin! Good luck and health!

We had an 18 year old girl renting the apartment and my wife sent her right on up to see me when she stopped in to ask how I was doing. Then her 14 yo sister wants to get a close up look at the stitches and she says: go ahead. o.O
Give me a little credit here. How many 70 year old guys do you know who got their balls clipped when they were young? o.O
I was a pioneer. 8) Remember that was in the days when you split tails were expected to get a tubal. :-S
