My Dad had two inguinal hernias fixed laparoscopically. The surgery was a success--no problems, incision sites healed, staples out--but the patient is in misery. He has extreme scrotal edema. All he is told is 'it happens; deal with it.' oh, sure. An other-wise hale and hearty 88-yr-old man who's never been hospitalized before does not appreciate the "deal with it" stuff. Is there ANYTHING that can be done to ease his pain?

Hi, i understand it can be quite frustrating for you to watch your dad suffer in pain and discomfort. Scrotal Edema does happen for number of reason but since you said he had a surgery it must be related to that. It does happen and it will go away soon. Usually patients with scrotal edema get a ultra sound test with their doctors to see if there is any blockage. But doctors think that your dad has this because he had surgery and thats why they are saying deal with it. I dont think there is much you can do now. It will go away eventually. Maybe the best thing you could do is to be there for your dad and maybe give him some painkillers if he is in pain. Get him to rest and give him love and care, that always helps.
