My mother is 47 years old and she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The prognosis is fairly good, since it was discovered in early stage. But still, I know that a hard battle awaits her and I will do whatever I can in order to help her. Can you tell me how exactly carcinogens lead to cancer?

I had the same questions couple of years back when my aunt died of stomach cancer. Unfortunately, it was too late for her. And I know that carcinogens (I assume we are thinking of nicotine, alcohol and all other dangerous substances) at one point when accumulated enough, cause a mutation of the cell which starts growing irregularly (and it multiplies and gives birth to new, cancer cells).
