I took Accutane for about 4 months several years ago and I was REALLY dry. It was horrible, but my skin slowly got better and better. Within a few months of taking it, my acne was gone and my skin looks amazing! I should be a spokesperson for that drug.
If your acne is severe enough and you put up with the side effects, I think Accutane can change your life.

Hi all,
I'm planning on starting Accutane within the next week, and I decided to read some of these comments on it. However, I don't think it's a good idea to accept any/all of these reviews as a prediction of what this drug will do to you. Drugs affect different people in different ways. The fact that one person experienced severe side effects while taking Accutane, does not necessarily mean that you will undergo the same exact changes. The same can be said for the effectiveness of the drug.
So people should avoid saying things like, "don't listen to so and so...because Accutane doesn't make you depressed at all, lol" Because such information is only based on an individual account, it cannot be accepted as a prediction for yourself, especially since all human bodies are different, and will respond to the drug in varying degrees of side effects.
For that reason, I would recommend talking to your doctor at length about pre-existing mental/physical conditions if you are concerned about the side effects it may cause. Your doctor can then prescribe you an appropriate dosage, that will hopefully help you avoid extreme unwanted side effects.
Good Luck!

I have just started taking Accutane and I have been on it for about a month. To be honest with you I do not see results but others say they do. I have a friend that was on it and it cleared his skin really good. He have never had any acne problems other than that. I do have side effects which include dry chapped lips, back problems, dry throat, and dry face. If you face dry out, I suggest you use Johnson and Johnson Baby Lotion for Sensitive Skin. I think it is important if you follow all instructions and be very careful if you take it and you're a female, because it can make your child deformed, I believed... :!: :!: :!: :!:

I have been on this drug for two weeks now, and have noticed some mild results. This drug was the final solution for me and my acne problem. I have taken every rx and bought just about every over the counter acne fix there is. All of them would work for three months and then nothing. After careful consideration, I read up on accutane spoke with people who have used it and decided this was for me. My derm doctor informed me of the side effects and also warned me that it could get worst before better. The dry lips are too much for me, although I they recommended to use Aquaphor(expensive) but wonderful. Just be patient and the results will be worth the wait.

yeah im on accutane now, i have 2 more months left. its iss greeaat. my lips are very dry and chapped n i use lots of vaseline as well as i have a few rashes due to dry skin, but it is also wrosened because right now it is winter. HOWEVER, accutane is great it clears up your acne significantly and keeps it away. as well it may make you a bit moody, but in the first months breakouts do INCREASE. its the sorta drug that has to get worse before it gets better, so that is expected. but in the later motnhs, your breakouts will stop and old acne will clear up:)

I have just completed the accutane cycle. It is the only thing that has worked on my skin. I only had dry skin and lips as my side effects. You should start seeing dramastic results in about 2 1/2 months. Your skin will get worse for about two weeks but it will clear up. I promise.

Im almost done with my first month of taking accutane. My face hasnt been too dry but my chin and below my nose are peeling like ive been at the beach all day. My shoulders and back are getting dry now and im pretty sure i either have a rash or hives on my back and elbows from taking accutane. My face has seen an improvement around my cheeks and forehead, but not around my chin

I am currently on my 13th week of taking 20mg/day. I was prescribed 20-10-20 for awhile and now on a 20mg/day until I don't have any new cystic acne. So far the past week has been beautiful. No new acne and my older smaller ones are flaking away. My first month on the 20-10-20 was horrible and I experienced something much like an oil spill out at sea. I never thought I had that much oil on my face and the itching was unbearable. Looking back, I'm glad I took this course and all's happy glory now. I do use an ice pack for my face occassionally now to reduce the redness which I'm still bearing with, but according to family, it's much much better than 13 weeks ago. By the looks of it, all should be near perfect in another month and a half....just in time to catch summer before it ends.
Think positive and honestly reject all those people who have butted their heads in on uselss comments about your acne situation. You're on the right track now with Accutane and for those with severe acne, the side effects will happen, no doubt, but they can controlled so that you don't experience the pain of it as much. My doc suggested I take an alternate 20-10-20 course as mentioned above and I'm glad I followed the cycle. The speed of your recovery isn't as important as the suffering you'll experience along the way if you rush your cycle. It takes time, and trust me it's worth it. I'm 29 years old now and glad this will be over soon. I also wear contacts but have not had the dry eyes/nosebleeds people have been telling me about. The only setback for me on this cycle was the itchiness in the first month and the extremely chapped lips which turned to white guck forming on the side of my lips every time I chapped back up. Your lips at the end, turn out unbelievably soft.
Now, I don't need to chap up as quick and as much after showers. But DO stay away from saunas!

I have had cystic acne that has been SO annoying my whole life(or atleast since I was 14) and has started to come back badly due to stress/lack of sleep/summer sweating...(these are my hypothesis' only).
I was on acccutane one time(I was 15/16 years old) and I remember it being terrible! Not really the side effects, just the breakout was soo bad since I have sensitive skin and cystic acne I looked like a mess!!...however, my dermatologist now has recommended that I give accutane another try and start on a small doses because I have tried pretty much EVERYTHING at this point. I will even try lasers if I got word that they would work, however, as you know, cystic acne is not an easy fix.
I am considering accutane again...I just cannot really risk having a really messy cystic acne breakout because I am at a pivotal point in my career....is there a decent chance it could start to get better immediately?..

I have been on Accutane for a little over a month now. The only side effects I have experienced, like almost everyone else, is chapped lips and dry skin. I did a lot of research before getting on this treatment because i was worried about the effects it would have on my body. Accutane is honestly a miracle drug. I cleared up a lot in my first 4 weeks but a week ago my face broke out again, but the zits are drying up faster than ever before. I see changes daily in my skin, and can not wait till my cycle is over and I actually see some permanent changes. Things will get better soon. You are not alone! Hang in there. Peace and Love.

Hey there,
I've been taking 40mg twice a day now for 1 month and so far my face has gotten really dry and I've broken out like never before, but my back, shoulders and chest got somewhat better... The zits do dry up fast but look very bad. I get nosebleeds more often then before, but I'm prone anyway. Of course, I have dry lips, but that's nothing a little vaseline won't fix. I'm REALLY hoping my face clears up soon. 2 more months to go. Wish me luck!
