Good luck to you! Please keep us posted on how your accutane experience goes. I never took it as Retin A worked well enough for me--I'd like to hear how you're doing though!

I took 80mg of accutane a day for 5 months and it would continuously get worse, then better off and on for five months. The only side effect that i had was chapped lips. I just stopped taking it and my acne is tremendously better, but I do tell you that it will take about 5 months and possibly a second treatment. I would definantly reccomend this drug and I am 20 years old.

I took 40mg of accutane a day and have now been on it for about 4months after about the first month I noticed improvements and within the first 2 weeks of taking it I never had another breakout but rather it was just a matter of clearing what acne I had started with. As for side effects none really that I can complain about, chapped lips I will say I live with chapstick in every pocket and I have to make sure I take with food (as per instruction) or else I do feel nausea a couple hours later. I'm 20 as well and would certainly recommend it.
Question though ... how do you know when you're able to come off without worrying that the acne will come back?

I take it and I'm 16 had acne scence I was 7 and well I just got put on it 4 days ago and my face hurts and my lips are chaped but I will do anything to get this all gone my doctor told me that I can not stop taking it for 6 months that is when they stop writing the prescription that is when you can stop taking it. :D

i completly agree, if you just listen to your dermatologist when you get the persciption perscribed to you he/she will tell you the possible effects of Accutane, also ask your doctor on the next visit if they havent already told you, Accutane is a cure to sever acne not a treatment. Also if your doctor already didnt tell you, in your first month or two of takeing accutane you are most likely to see a major breakout because Accutane is bringing out all of the acne in your face, neck, sholders, chest, or back, and deminish it from their, most people see an improvement in 3 to 4 months.

I used it for 1 month and it helped a lot . my acne hasnt cleared all the way yet but it worth the money. it is kind of pricy but worth it

i geuss it depends on how severe your acne is

How severe is your acne for a frame of reference? I think that would help to get an idea of perspective. If you could let us know, that would be awesome. Thanks!

I began Accutane on November 16, 2009, so it has been about 11 days so far. I already have seen a difference in the texture of my skin. The difference is worst, so I am trying to stay positive because I know it will eventually get better. When I began on November 16th, my skin was completely clear that day. I had a very good month as my skin has been completely acne free, but now since beginning with my prescription I have cystic acne on my jaw line. I have three nodules currently, but the one is huge and horrible. I was forced to drain it of the poison because it hurt so bad! Now it feels better, but looks worst.

I started taking accutane in august, after a few months of research. I have severe cystic acne on my face, and chest. I would get these massive pimples, which hurt so much I just wanted them gone. Eventually, I agreed (of course with hesitation) to take accutane. I read everything I could about it, and started to take it. Results were not immediate, but I did start seeing that my pimples were less severe, and more on the surface, so they were not as painful. From August until the end of November, I continued taking accutane, and the minute I stopped, I got more cystic pimples, which hurt terribly. When I went to see my doctor, he put me back on for 2 months at 40mg. He says that some just take longer than others.
I really don't mind because the only side effect I got was somewhat dryer skin that before, and very dry lips(i live on lip balms now).

Most people who I have spoken with take accutane on average for 6 months, and have no recurrence for many many years, if not ever.

Hopefully we all get much relief from the drug!

Had tried my luck with a plethora of different antibiotics and none of them were effective. The side effects from some of them were just as bad as those from accutane for me. I had some nasty cystic acne that sometimes looked like it piled on top of itself too form super pimples. about to finish 6th month of accutane 80mg a day. face is completely clear, even the red scarring marks are pretty much gone that i had anticipated having no matter what. thought i might get one of those peels but dont think i really need it. Side effects were never too bad. In my experience, it is definitely worth it, i have much more confidence than i have ever had before. The only negative side right now is now that the weather has gotten much colder my entire face is peeling and hurts a little bit but still definitely worth it.

I have been taking the drug for two weeks now and have already seen massive improvement!

My face is starting to get very dry, but nothing that cant be helped by moisturising etc.

I had bad cystic acne and I'm 22. I have been told by doctors that it works better the older you are.

My view on this topic is that acne ruins your life and by reviewing you progress while on accutane with a doctor is the only real way to help you get on with your life!

Good Luck

hi i've been on Accutane for about a week now and i'm seeing some results already. in those short 5 days most of my acne on my cheeks (which was causing scars bc i couldn't stop touching them) has completely disappeared and the pimples near my chin are clearing up as well. i'm taking 30mg 2 times per day and i'm 6'1 tall around 160lbs and 16 years old. i'm aware of the possible side effects but as long as they aren't life-altering problems i don't think it is a problem. my doctor said that some of the "side effects" are studies that show 1 in every 10,000-20,000 people develop a negative effect while on Accutane. personally i don't belive that a problem that appears in 1 person out of 20,000 people is a true "side effect" but rather just a problem that occured by chance. Overall so far Accutane is helping me and i'm hoping that my acne will clear up.

you dont know.. i've taken two cycles of acutane and i am on my second one as we speak. i am on my fifth month and i doubt that it will come back this time. but thats what my dermatologist thought last time.. the first time i was on accutane i had minor breakouts but this second cycle that i am taking i completely altered my diet and i havent had any at all. what my doctor suggested this second time around is to complete the whole six months reguardless of how much progress it looks like i have made.

sooo.... im going to the derm. on Tue. to demand accutane.. i am really nervous to get on it after reading all these comments. Everyone is different and has different reactions as i have read through them all. My acne isnt too bad i just have moments where it is crazy and other moments where it is pretty clear. I am getting married in Aug. (7 months away) i really hope by the time my wedding day comes i will have clear skin. Its hard to have high self esteem when you have ugly acne :-(.
Wish me luck!! If anyone has advice for me please give some
Thanks! %-)
