This is a very ignorant post. Yes, those with acne do tend to be more susceptible to depression because of the low self esteem factor but accutane can physically effect your neurological processes in several different ways leading to depressed thoughts. Know the science behind what you're actually talking about before making such an uneducated statement.

Hi,

Ive been on accutane for 3 months and the only side effects that i have got are dry lips, itchy scalp and very rarely my knee will hurt. I havent experienced any headaches or depression. I dont have any oily skin and that started about a week or so into treatment. I dont get breakouts unless im going to start my period. The breakouts are small too! The only thing that did happen was aroud Christmas time I was eating a lot of junky unhealthy food and my triglycerides went sky high. i got on a low fat high fiber diet and they went down. The doc said my skin is doing so good i may get off earlier than he expected.

Thank you for this post my 15 yr old son started Accutane going on 3 weeks ago. He's been battling it for over 2 yrs now mainly on his back, shoulders and chest. Oral antibiotics and face creams didn't seem to help much then a few months ago it started to get bad on his face so we decided to go to another derm (our 3rd now). She looked at his skin ask how long and what treatments had he tried and strated him on Accutane 40 mg twice a day. He's disappointed because it has actually gotten worse on his face since starting and hasn't gotten better anywhere so far. It bothers me because it's his first year in high school and I know how embarrassing it is to have bad skin and you can't cover your face. Girls can try to cover with makeup but boys don't even have that option. Any words of encourage help we just keep wondering how long before he will see improvement rather than things getting worse.

I dont think being in America makes a difference, its all about the physician and his/her preferences. I started out on 20 for a month then increased it to 40mg/day.

I'm a 21 y.o. male up to my 4th month on Roaccutane. Would recommend it to anyone with acne. You can try dieting, zinc tablets, IPL (other treatments) but they don't work - what you need is an aggressive approach like this. There are many "side affects" that you will most definitely be warned about, but it's just to keep you aware that it is in fact a STRONG antibiotic for acne. The only side affects I've had is dry skin (so moisturise daily after cleansing) & severe dry lips (always carry lip balm around). NOTE: It will get worse before it gets better, that's how the drug works.

I recommend Cetaphil cleanser & moisturiser and Lucas' pawpaw ointment for lips. GOOD LUCK :)

Hi, i was on Accutane last year for 4 months on 40mg a day and my skin cleared up rather quickly. However i did get very dry skin on my legs and arms. I also experienced muscle cramps especially in my toes which was especially bad when i was swimming! Unfortunatley i have had to have another course of treatment which i started a few days ago as my acne returned. So far i have had no side effects and i am keeping on top of moisturising my skin, so hopefully this will help! Make sure you eat before you take the tablets as it makes you feel a bit sick if you take them on an empty stomach and refrain from drinking alcohol and also doing extreme workouts! Hope this helps anyone :)
