I had been taking 4O mg and so far I haven't seen any results. Does anyone know how long do i have to wait to see any improvement on my skin? This is my 3rd week and I still break out a lot. Do you guys think the brand matters?

If you go to dermatologist now, your acne will have enough time to clean. First accutane results are visible month or two after the treatment began. Course usually lasts 4-5 months and additional 3-8 weeks is needed until the skin becomes normal (without any redness). So if you take accutane right now or in following few weeks it will surely disappear until wedding day :D

Good luck!

You will see results, 20mg is too low and you have just increased dose. Be PATIENT because Accutane will surely help you!

Side effects such as dry skin, lips and hair are more than 90% common. Fatigue, back pains, dry eyes are about 5-25% common to patients. Depression, hair loss, bowel disease is less than 1% (and that's your "every 10,000-20,000 people"). Keep your head up, I took it too and I survived :D I think it's worth of skin improvement

I just got on accutane on feb 23. not going to lie, was terrified of the results but i am 24 and cant take looking like a pubescent teenager anymore. i am getting married in aug as well and really really hope my skin is clear by then. also, for females, the process of trying to obtain an accutane prescription is f'in insane it takes a whole month just to get all of the preliminary stuff out of the way (ipledge, pregnancy test, blood test etc.). just beware of the side effects, change your diet so you're eating a lot healthier and drink LOTS of water (like so much you have to pee every 30-45 mins) and hopefully this can help your body handle the medicine. i've had some crazy headaches so far, really serious vision problems and my face is starting to breakout in painful cystic acne. i'm trying to stay positive because, like many of you, i've been on every other medication out there and this is a last resort.

you really have to pay attention to your body taking this medication and take care of it to the best of your ability. wash your face with gentle face wash, find a good non-oily moisturizer, drink lots of water, DONT DRINK ALCOHOL NO MATTER WHAT (it has serious serious side effects on your pancreas and liver and is frankly not worth it to have a lifetime of health issues and not drink for the rest of your life as opposed to abstaining for like 6 months of treatment), use sunscreen and stay out of the sun (don't want to permanently damage your skin), don't pick at your acne no matter how tempting (your skin is so sensitive and has a reduced ability to regenerate on this medicine, it can increase scarring exponentially even if you're not picking at your acne) and try to eat a low cholesterol diet because the accutane increases cholesterol levels and if it increases it too much, your doctor will take you off the medicine.

good luck all!!

Hey,
Im now on my second week, starting off low (20mg i think in Australia we start off lower however we have to go on it for 7-9months, longer & in America you start off stronger and finish earlier...) well anyways im on the second week and I would probably say that my acne has started to get slightly worse, my pimples seem to have alot more pus; yet no side effects what so ever, slightly dry lips but no need for balm or anything...(probs cause of the low does & considering im 6 foot) But as my dermatoligist said the first two months most peoples acne gets worse before it gets better. Btw to anyone thinking of going on accutane, it is a serious drug however depression as NEVER been proven to be linked to accutane; so if thats why you dont want to go on it, just see a dermatoligist and they will fill you on the facts. Good luck peeps!

I am a 33yr old woman. I had severe acne in my teens. The acne around my chin, mouth and nose was so bad that some people thought I had herpes sores around my mouth, but it was acne. My hairline, skin between my eyebrows and neck also had large hard under the skin acne that would surface into large nodular pimples. I remember having braces too and going to the orthodontist was so painful when he would adjust the brackets because his hands press against the acne around my mouth and chin. It was terrible.

My mother has sever scaring all over her face from acne throughout her life, and at 68 she still gets a pimple now an then, so it is hereditary and as sure as Obama is the US president, acne is genetic. In addition, majority of acne breakouts are driven by hormonal changes - most significant hormonal changes due to puberty, child birth, menopause will also peak oil production and increase chance for acne breakouts - At least - that is what I have learned from my life living with acne as well as witnessing my mother's hormonal changes.

I went on accutane at 17yrs old and my skin was clear in 6 months. I can't remember the dose since it was so long ago. My side affects - chapped lips and my dermatologist recommended vaseline, since chapstick does not absorb into the skin and can sometimes cause more breakouts since doesn't moisturize, but only provides a barrier. Vaseline helps lips from cracking and helps moisturize without clogging pores around the mouth. It can also be used on your skin without clogging poors, except you might get a little shinny.

Anyway I have had two children since taking accutane in my teens. After my first child my hormones were crazy and I started breaking out again like in highschool, so I went back on accutane for about 5 months. My 2nd child was 10yrs later and again my hormones have been triggered into a crazy cycle where my skin is like it was in highschool. It is quite demoralizing as a professional adult to go into meetings with bloody and crusty dried pimples. Other adults could careless about what your skin looks like, but your self-esteem whether you are a teenager or 30 something adult get's hit like a mack truck when your face/body is covered with acne.

Now with all of the regulations that have been put in place with the new medical reform bill, it is required for all women to have blood tests monthly and it is federally mandated. Your name and info go into a database and your prescriber has to affirm that you are not pregnant before taking the acne. You have a small window - I think a week to get your prescription filled after the blood test is negative for pregnancy. It is all to avoid abortions, as they were formally allowed if a woman got pregnant while taking accutane.

The depression aspect of accutane is truly a falisy, bad rap. The depressive feelings are hormonal and due to the horrible self-esteem that is caused by acne, not accutane.

My face was as clear as a china doll after taking accutane and I can't wait to go back on it. I'm tired of popping pimples that leave big scares and wholes in my face. My daughter sees make-up commercials on TV and says 'Mom you need to get that so your skin can be clear'. Acne is a disease that needs to be treated. It's like someone with egzema that keeps scratching and itching and making the egzema spread and not getting treated so they can have some relief. Accutane is worth to me.

In fact - I wish I could be a paid spokes person.

I have been on accutane or otherwise known as isotane for a period of 8 months a year or two ago.
It completely cleared up my serious acne problems to the point of having not one blemish.
Your acne can get worse on accutane before it gets better. No worry, it is worth it.
It also depends on the dose you have been given as to when you start noticing the effect of the medicine.
This is a very good treatment of acne, and I do recommend it those with severe acne who have tried other methods firstly and those methods have failed.
Acne can come back after a period for some, this isn't to do with the medicine.
You simply contact your doctor if you begin to notice blemishes at all.

Just started my third month of Claravis (accutane generic). I'm still getting blemishes here and there however they are not inflamed and they dry up pretty much instantly. My skin is MUCH better than it was before I got on the drug. Hopefully it goes away completely. I have pretty dry skin but I've been using a cetaphil non-comedogenic facial moisturizer which has worked just fine. I've never gone through so much chapstick in my life. I have always had eczema but it is flaring up big time right now...my nose is always dry and bloody on the inside. I'm also noticing some bowel issues...not to be too specific but I just had to start taking senokot. I'm noticing some back and joint pain. Yes these sound like a lot of symptoms but I have to be honest when I say they're all worth the improvement I've seen in my skin. Having acne SUCKS. All the side-effects are tolerable and if my acne goes away completely - the symptoms are even more tolerable! Being a child-bearing U.S. female who has to be blood tested every single month is kind of irritating but again - the improvement I've seen in my skin is worth the hassle. I've heard you're supposed to avoid sun but I live in Florida and we're pretty much already full-blown hardcore sunshine and I've laid out and haven't had any trouble.
