Hi

I'm trying to find out if Accutane can damage a person's reproductive system in any way. Do your kids look ok? There's some information going around about how Offspring of post Accutane users turn out with Bulgey Eyes. Do your kids have Bulgey Eyes at all? Please let me know.

Thank you.

Yes, there are side effects as in any medication but I am so sick of reading things about this from people who have not even taken the medication. Not everyone has sideeffects and this drug is amazing. I actually took it. Its your choice if you don't want to take it, but don't try to push it on others who may benefit from it

Hi..i read evrybodys comments and i just wanted to say that iv bn on isotretinoin tablets fr d past one and a half months. What this drug does is cause all ur oil glands to shrink and frst cleanses out ur pores. So it causes ur acne to worsen initially. So wat my doc did was initially put me on topical cream of antibiotic nd tablets of antibiotic and killed d bacteria and reduced d acne as much as he cud fr a month and half. And then put me on ds drug. As a result d remaining acne on my face did worsen for the frst two weeks..nd then slowly they started to dry nd eventually my skin has become very clear and beautiful..however my lips chapped and i tanned alot. But this was way more bearable than the acne. Just keep at it but only under a docs guidance as its a dangerous drug n used only in the severest of cases. Goodluck.

Well the reason for your side effects are probably due to your dosage since you have such severe acne. Dermatologists prescribe your dosage depending on how severe your acne is.

Hi im 16 years old and i started 40mg accutane a little over a month ago and i take it once a day. i have moderate acne and did not wanna go through highschool with acne anymore. i already knew about accutane because my brother who is now 22 took it the same age as me and he cleared up very nicely and his acne was much worse then mine. so i know that it is basically fully proof, but so far i really havent seen any changed besides the first week i took it where i cleard up some what, nothing really has happend if not got a little bit worse. Looking at some of the other replies to this i saw that most people were saying that it really starts to take effect after about the second month of takeing it which in my case i have not really got there yet. i was getting kind of frustrated that i had to start going to school seeing no improvement in my acne but i am sure my dermotologist put me on the right plan for my treatment and i should hopefully start seeing results  really soon. On to the "side effects" that sourrounds this drug, for me at least i have not really experenced any of the major ones the ipledge card has on it but some of the less major ones that done requier you to stop takeing it. The only side effects that i have felt with this are SEVER chaped lips, joint pain in my knees that i never had befor during sports and very odd dreams. i think these are the side effects people get for the most part so if you could deal with that i strongly encourage you go to your local dermotologis and ask about accutane!

There are really no side affects. People are dumb and blame there problems on medicine when really the medicine isn't hurting you. Depression isn't a side affect of acutane, people with acne just generally have depression. I recommend it and I'm on my first month with really no problems.

I'm a 29 years old woman with miderate but vert persistent acne cause by hormone imbalance. I'm on my second accutane treatment (hope the results will last this time). I'm at week 6. 10 mg a day the first month, now 20 mg a day. I thought that low dosage will prevent me from the initial breakout but i did get it. My skin is pretty bad right now.

Hi all. I'm fourteen and have severe nodular acne. Nodular is the worst kind and is kind of like cystic acne but is actually under your skin and an infection. It is extremely painful. I'm broken out on my face, neck, chest and back. My chest and back are both scabbed up and it's been over a month and they still haven't healed. It hurts. I just started Claravis, which is the same as any other Accutane product (Isotrentinoin) 40mg once a day. I was first on Clyndamycin for a while but it had no effect, along with retin-A and an antibiotic gel and then an ointment, which didn't help to much. I then went to the dermatologist and was put on prednisone 20mg for two weeks first to help calm it down, and then I was put on Accutane. The prednisone helped and I haven't really broken out anymore. People have said that everything looks temendously better than it has in a long time. I haven't noticed to much though, but I can still tell it's helped. As far as side effects go I have had some lower back pain as well as very chapped lips and some headaches (may or may not be caused by the Accutane) I highly recommend this medicine to anyone who has acne because I have the worst kind of acne and I can tell it's helped already. I do recommend some good chapstick, haha. My Dermatologist told me to use Dr. Dan's cordi-balm which also has hydrocortizone in it. Ignore all the negative stuff this is a great medicine because I thought I hadd no hope at all because nothing else worked!

My son has cystic acne, he took accutane for 4 to 5  months and it totally disappeared. The  first 2 months it didn't seem like it was doing much, then the 3rd month brought noticeable change, the 4 month, it was like a miracle, acne started to dry up and by the end of the 4th month maybe just into the 5th month, it was completely gone. He had blood work done every month  before he got his next monthys supply. The doc said sometimes takes 6 months or sometimes 2 sessions of 6 months.

Had cystic acne on my face and back. Oddly enough I also got a couple on my head as well. All my life I've never had an acne problem. The worst I ever had was a few grouped up pimples/cysts in the hot summer months.

This past summer though, my skin was extremely oily. I tried literally every facewash, nothing would make it less oily. No special diet would help. No no other time in my life was I so oily, and I broke out like crazy. The ugly cystic acne. I was 20 years old, and couldn't handle my face looking like that. Ordered accutane online. Took for 2.5 months, seemed like so much longer.

I read about the low dosage treatments, I thought I'd have minimal to no side effects. I was so wrong.

I only took 5mg, and went up to 10mg after about a month for 2 weeks, then back down to 5mg after my brain fog was extremely severe under the 10mg.

Side effects:

1 week - extremely red skin, still oily

2 weeks - most oiliness gone, skin less red but still irritated.

3-6 weeks - extremely dry skin, moisturizer most days, lips very chapped. For a couple weeks one of my eyes were bloodshot. When I went out for runs, the sweat would burn my skin because it was so dry. I had pretty minor hair loss, a few pieces of hair- still noticeable.

7-10 weeks - skin evened out on face, no more acne and no more extreme dryness. My skin actually looked pretty good besides a few very faded acne marks. My back still broke out very rarely, only a cyst here and there. I figured that with more time this will go away also.

With all the success with my skin, there were huge downsides. I got arthritis like symptoms, this is not something to take lightly. My toes and fingers were in extreme pain, even when not in motion. After a couple of weeks that seemed to have lessened. I then had problems with some of my tendon  being very tight for no apparent reason. Then came severe brain fog (could not think clearly at all). I'm guessing this lead me into a depression. I wasn't able to hold witty conversations, I was very dulled out and felt like a general retard. I also had a few tugs in my intestinal area but nothing major. After a few weeks of the brain fog, I could not handle it. I stepped down my dosage to 5 mg every other day, I am doing this currently and am hoping the brain fog will go away, and that this is enough dosage to keep my skin beautiful.

Fingers crossed.

I had cystic acne for five years or so, eventually waking up one day to a swollen area the size of a quarter or larger.  Accutane reduced my cystic acne by about 95% for two years, although I still got intermittent whiteheads.  I'm back on Accutane again because the cystic acne is increasing.
