Is it safe to take painkillers 36 hours after a general anesthetic for
a Hysteroscopy and a D & C? Everything was fine after with no complications

I reckon that pain killers can be taken right away after the general anesthesia if you are in a lot of pain. Most doctors or their stuff would give you some drugs to take home with you after the surgery. Maybe not for hysteroscopy but when undergoing bigger surgeries, they give you the painkillers.

You can safely take the drugs if you have pain or cramping although the discomfort is usually mild after hysteroscopy.

The only thing one shouldn’t do after general anesthesia is drive and drink alcohol for at least 24 hours after the surgery.

No one should take pain killers for atleast 48 hours after surgery as the anastetic stays in system for 48hours after surgery. When you have had surgery you will be given pain killers whilst in recovery or on a ward under the supervision of nurses and doctors .. you will also be given pain killers to take home but these pain killers that you take home are only for you to start taking after 48hours due to the fact that the anastethesia will still be in your system and can be dangerous to take without a medical staffs supervision so they always advise people given pain killers to take home to wait 48hrs before taking along with no alcohol , driving, avoid smoking and operating machinairy or electrical equiptment and make sure someone stays with you overnight, i myself had surgery yesturday and was told the same thing.
