Hello, I am 25 years old and I am pregnant. Even though I am very happy at the moment, I have to admit that I am also a bit concerned. My father is suffering form diabetes and I have heard that I might get affected by gestational diabetes in the pregnancy. How can I prevent that condition from occurring?

Well, there are certain risk factors that should be avoided when in pregnancy. You should try to maintain a normal weight as much as possible (no starving or rigorous diets!), especially if you have diabetes in your family. Still, you have to know that this is not essential; even 100% healthy women get affected. But it can be controlled, so don’t worry much for now. Enjoy your pregnancy!
