Hiya, I'm a new user and I'm interested in the side effects of Humulin. I have type 2 and have been on humulin for two weeks now. My doctor is having me increase my dosage by 2 units every 3 days until my fasting BG becomes normal. I'm not feeling so good. I have bad aches and pains all over. All my joints hurt, my legs and arms and knees hurt so bad. I'm having troubles walking. I'm tired all the time. I am just miserable. Has anyone out there experienced this with humulin. I don't see any information on this with the papers I got with my insulin. Someone help please! Thanks.

Hello, I'm not sure what all the aches and pains are about but remember, different insulins affect people differently. As to you being tired all the time, you may have vitamin deficiencies. Where you on metformin before you got Humulin? Metformin is know to create deficiencies. It can create anemia, vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficiencies. It can also cause hypothyroidism. You need to tell your doctor that your tired and that you have aches and pains. Suggest that you may have vitamin deficiencies. They can give you a B12 shot right away and that should really perk you up. Beyond that just take some OTC vitamins/minerals. Make sure the multi you get has a lot of vitamin D in it. Oh and that should be vitamin D3. I was already on a multi when I started with my meds (metformin) so I just increased my daily dose of vitamins from the beginning to make up for the metformin problem. I've been on humulin for 4 years now and I'm happy with it. My BG stabilized a long time ago and so far everything has stayed the same. Maybe I've been fortunate but I stick to a very strict diet and exercise like clock work.
