10 years ago I started to notice changes in my menstrual cycle and periods and I also felt 'different'. 3 years after I was refered to gynaecologist as I wanted to be sterilised. I had my hormone levels checked because I told my gynae that my periods were coming every 26 days instead of 28. The results showed my FSH was high and my oestrogen was low, these tests were repeated three times over next 3 months and always the same results came back, so my Gynae told me I was having an early menopause. I was 34 at the time and going through a very stressful time in my life (my 3yr old son was an undiagnosed Aspergers suffrerer). I was very traumatised by this diagnosis. I could feel the effects of the hormone imbalance but I never had any hot flushes or missed a period. 5 years later and still having regular, heavy periods and suffering with awful PMT I went back to my GP to question the Gynae's diagnosis. The hormone tests were repeated and evry thing was normal: FSH was low and oestrogen high. "You can go away and forget all about an early menopause" said my GP. Two years laterand my periods have now become very erratic, sometimes bleeding very heavily for two weeks and then going several weeks before the next period. So my GP sent me for some tests. Swabs, smear and pelvic scan all came back normal. I am due to go back to see a different GP in two weeks but confess to being at my whits end now. I was disappointed when the radiologist said my uterus looked very healthy I was hoping there would be something wrong and I would have to have a hysterectomy!! Could it be possible that my ovaries are affected by stress to this degree. I certainly don't feel paticularly stressed but my husband is waiting to hear if he is losing his job, could this expalin the latest round of hormonal problems and if so what can be done about it.
