I can maintain my Sense of Taste When Having a Cold

All the people I know say their sense of taste is severely diminished during the time their nose is stuffed up when they have a cold. However, I have never had this problem and don't understand how it is possible that my sense of smell is not diminished by a cold when everything I've read indicates that it should be. Does anyone know how it is possible that this reaction does not apply to me?
