Hi there, I came across your post today. I just found out that my 18 year old son has Alopecia Areata. I am so upset about this and I am trying to find out more info about why or how it comes. He had exactly the same as you with the inching and then hair loss. Have you been told it could come from stress. How are you doing ? I hope your doing better. Please email me if you have any info.
Thank you, Bridget

Hi everyone! I have been suffering from Alopecia Areata for more than 10 years. I have tried injections and topical treatments, but none of these worked. I use to live in India and I have had many treatments from there and they have all worked. But the only problem is that they are temporary, the hair comes back but I get a new patch somewhere else. Currently, I am using onion juice and neem oil. I massage neem oil and organic coconut oil first them make onion juice and apply that on my spots daily. I also am taking hair, skin, and nails vitamins and iron. Right now, I can feel the hair and also see little hairs growing and it has been a month and half. I am hoping this works. Also, the Indian treatments are very harsh but they have worked for me. The whole point of the indian treatments is to irritate the scalp so the body doesn't attack the hairs.

Girl, I feel your pain!! I've been battling it since 1997.......have cried MANY tears!! Now, it has worn me down; I don't care as much since after years on kenalog caused me to have cataracts and every joint in my body to hurt since stopping the injections after the MD retired. I'm done. If it grows fine, if not fine; I'll buy some wigs!! Good luck to you!!

Like everyone here, I suffer from alopecia areata. Mine came on suddenly in 2008 when I injured my rotator cuff in a fall off a platform at my workplace. The workman's comp insurance woman was a satanic beast and kept throwing roadblocks in my way before I could have surgery. In pain and frustration for months, my hair began to fall out in clumps. After a shower, there would be a wad of hair the size of a Brillo pad at the drain. My doctor did the necessary thyroid tests and concluded it was alopecia areata brought on by stress, so he referred me to a dermatologist.
I purchased a nice wig for $500 from a salon which services chemo patients. It looked good, but was hot in summer and I was always afraid it would fall off on windy days. My eyebrows and eyelashes fell out too. I saw the dermatologist and she gave me cortisone shots into my scalp and eyebrows (yes, the shots hurt). That restored enough hair for me to look somewhat presentable. I still get the shots every few months.
As far as eyelashes, a side effect of Lumigan is eyelash growth. Lumigan is bimatoprost, an eye medication and it is marketed cosmetically as Latisse for three times the price. So, if you can get your ophthalmologist to write you a prescription for off-label use, it works. Just rub a drop along your eyelash line once a day. My eyelashes will never be as full as they were, but better than nothing.
Now, on one visit to my dermatologist, she had a med student who asked me if I had tried the aromatherapy herbal treatment. She said that researchers had gotten 40% success with this. She gave me the actual formula written on a piece of paper and it is the same thing as noted in the research study. The study was done in1998 in Aberdeen, Scotland at the Royal Infirmary Department of Dermatology.
The formula is
Thyme vulgaris 2 drops, 88 mg
Lavandula agustifolia 3 drops, 108 mg
Rosmarinus officinalia 3 drops, 114 mg
Cedrus atlantica 2 drops, 94 mg
Combine with 3 mL of jojoba and 20 ml of grapeseed oils
Massage into scalp for 2 minutes, then wrap a warm towel around the head for ~30 minutes every night.
It smells really nice, but I was too lazy to keep it up, so I cannot report any results. I am also too lazy to use Rogaine which my dermatologist said I could do in the 5% strength (marketed for men in that strength, but ok for women she said).
There's another cosmetic product called Toppik. It is a bunch of tiny hair-like fibers which come in a applicator that resembles a perfume atomizer. You squeeze a little bulb and it squirts the fibers into a spot. I had never known about this until 2013 when I was in a movie and the hairdresser used it on me. It comes in different hair colors. I buy it at Bed Bath & Beyond.
Best wishes to everyone here.

Well it was pretty effective for me. Only for small patches. Or you can say contained Patches. If you've got multiple patches on head only, there is a simple way. It's a bit Cruel, but it is pretty effective. You could see growth in 2 weeks. And all you need is A razor blade. Please let me know if someone has the condition i've mentioned.
