I got the mirena in dec 2014, in the last 3 months I put on 13lbs, 5 of them in the last month. I eat 1400 cal/day religiously, I cut out starches (potatoes, bread, rice), I go to the gym and do classes for an hour 3times/week and have just added the insanity videos for my days off from the gym. I understand that a small portion of the weight may be muscle gain but I have put on 1inch on my hips, 1.5inches on my waist, and 1 inch in my bust so it's not all muscle. I'm getting married in July and my wedding dress is now too small. Anyone have any success with losing the weight on mirena?

Just to let you all know... You are not crazy! P.S. I am a real person. Mirena can cause weight gain, as well as many other symptoms such as insulin resistance, estrogen dominance, ovarian cysts, and many others... Some serious, some not! I know this because I've been researching Mirena like a maniac lately because I thought I was going crazy. I got it placed in 9/11 after baby number 2. I can not lose weight to save my life after many efforts ( p90x, 21 day fix, weight watchers, etc). Finally I've resorted to diet pills... Nothing!! I take out the mirena 7 days ago, 8 lbs gone! Now most of that is probably water but still! I've suffered for almost 4 years with migraines, foggy brain, mood swings... Symptoms of either insulin resistance or some other hormonal imbalance. I feel a lot better since removal, but not 100%. Just working on my health now... No more synthetic hormones for me!

I have had the Mirena IUD put in 2x. The first time was a few weeks after I had my son. And had it removed 7 months later bc I was feeling depressed, no sex drive whatsoever and couldn't seem to lose weight no matter my efforts(but didn't gain either) so I had it removed and with some dieting and exercise I lost 12lb. Then in January 2015 I decided to have it put in again and 4 months later it seems like the side effects have returned. I can't lose weight, Im very moody, feeling down lately and breaking out. I like the convenience of not having to take a pill everyday and also my periods have stopped for the most part(just a little spotting here and there) as much as I don't want to I am seriously considering having it removed for the 2nd time.

I'm suffering the same thing! My whole life I've eaten junk and never been active and ice always been 120-125 lbs. In October I got Mirena inserted and I shot up to 147.8 lbs. not only that, but I have developed acne EVERYWHERE. On my face, back, shoulders, chest, stomach, and even once in my earlobe (weird!). Since October I have felt like a hideous monster as I watch my body change so drastically. I decided to change my diet completely and spend 5 days a week at the gym running miles and miles. 3 months later....no change. My thighs, butt, and stomach constantly look swollen no matter how many diuretics and laxatives I take. I'm telling you, I'm trying EVERYTHING to get my old body back and it's not working. I'm getting my IUD removed May 26th, getting mirena was the biggest mistake of my life.

I've read all the comments & I'm sorry that so many of you have gained weight with the Mirena.I just had Mirena Inserted for the second time, 2 weeks ago. When I first had it in 2007-2012, I had never gained weight and I'm hoping to have similar blessing. Once I got serious about my diet and weight training, I actually was able to lose a ton of weight.

Cardio is good for your heart, weight training actually helps you build muscle which the muscle burns the fat. You can't just count calories, honestly that's the worst. You have to take in tons of protein, cut the carbs, drink 8 glasses of water a day, build lean muscle and I Promise you'll see results.

I started weight training again 1 month ago, and I plan to drop 30 lb, with the help of a trainer, by November 2015 to compete in a Swimsuit competition.  You also have to switch up your workouts; competitive swimming burns a lot of calories, racquetball even tennis. You can hit a plateau just doing cardio and counting calories. You have to do intense training,(INTENSE TRAINING) if it means a lot to you, save the money HIRE A TRAINER!!!

Also, I forgot to add, sometimes you won't lose weight but you'll lose inches. So those of you who are working out and eating healthy, make sure your getting measured as well.

I just love not having periods, but I do not want the mirena ever again cuz it does cause you to lose weight. I don't even have a appetite and before I got it I used to have a huge appetite, so be careful with any form of birth control you decide because everybody's bodies are different, there is nothing more better than having anything in your body but everything being natural.

Hi, I agree with you, I got the Mirena over 2 yrs now, and I have 3 children they are young adults now, but since I had the Mirena, I have put on weight quite a lot, about 30lbs, I had tried everything, and I don't lose weight at all, my skin is very oily, headaches, fatigue, moody, the only positive thing about it is I don't have periods and not periods pains, so I really don't know what to do or how to lose all the weight?? If you find a solution hahaha, I will be happy to hear it. But that lady you were referring before, seems to me, is just a good commercial hahahaha!!! Have a good day

I had a 2nd IUD put in place in April of 2015, since then I noticed I look 3 months pregnant. I had it previously for more than 5 years and did not have this problem. I'm older now and my hormones have changed drastically. I have never had belly fat and now it is just out of control. To test my theory I exercised for 3 weeks straight on a good healthy diet and I gained 4lbs. I'm convinced it is the IUD. I look horrible. I'm only 5ft tall and all my clothes are super tight. I'm getting it removed this week in hopes that my natural hormones will help me in loose the stubborn weight I have gained in the last two years.
