I'm shocked! I got the mirena 6 weeks after having my baby. He is now 10 months old. I have been eating healthy, running on my treadmill, jumping rope, and hula hooping and I can only drop 5 pounds. I also breast feed. And breastfeeding while eating healthy and excerise are supposed to help you lose weight faster.

My weight is also around my belly. And I look like I'm pregnant. I was already thinking about having it removed, because I've been getting these sharp pains in my uterus area. Now after reading ALL these women say they are having issues with weight loss as well, I know for sure that I'm going to have it removed. I'm going to call my gyn tomorrow and get the appointment asap!

I will come back on here and let you all know if I lost weight after.

Thanks!

This is really late but, I just stumbled accross this forum as I was searching for weight loss associated with Mirena.

I have had my Mirena for 10 months and have lost 15+ pounds without doing anything. I'm biginning to think maybe it's not from the Mirena and is being caused by something else. I have a very poor diet. My family and I eat out all the time. When I got the Mirena I weighed 136..now I weigh 118 or less. My size 0 pants are starting to fall off. Which I am definetly not complaining...but I have ALWAYS had a problem with losing weight.

Thank goodness I found this forum! I had the Mirena fitted almost a year ago and since then I've gained almost 30lb. I eat a very healthy diet and I'm very active (I'm currently training for a marathon) and the only thing that's changed in my diet has been as a response to the sudden weight gain when I started actively trying to cut back my calories (only to gain even more weight!) To the lady that advised us all to cut back on the pizza, I know your heart's in the right place but it's really not helpful (and actually kind of hurtful) to be told by strangers that we MUST be eating too much or not exercising enough - do you really think we haven't considered that? I used to be really happy with my body and now it's flabby and disgusting (and it's knocking minutes of my mile pace, dragging those extra lbs after me...) I was tearing my hair out wondering what on earth could have been causing this weight to keep piling on (I gained 4lb during a bout of severe gastroenteritis, that's how tenacious this fat of mine is) and when my bloodwork all came back normal and I saw that look in my doctor's eye - the one that says, oooookkkaaay, now let's talk about what you're *really* eating per day - I started to feel like it was a hopeless cause. I'm getting this Mirena out ASAP!

Although I will say this: it's a fantastic contraceptive in that it's made me feel so self-conscious and awful about my body that it's annihilated my sex life :-D

Thank you all for every single post. I have had my Mirena in for almost three years now. Since then, I have gained 27 pounds. I am at my all time heaviest and most out of shape (I am 35 and this is the first time I have ever seen cellulite on my body!). I have a very active lifestyle with four wonderful sons and an incredible husband. I eat very healthy and eat a low fat, low cholesterol diet. I am constantly on the go and yet could not shed the pounds. I would shed 5-6 pounds here and there with A LOT of struggle, just to gain it all back. My moods were horrible and most importantly I was feeling suffocated by growing depression. I have beaten myself up for feeling this way, not being able to lose all the weight, etc. It is fantastic to hear that I am not alone. I am scheduled to have it removed tomorrow. I am so hopeful that this will help in all the arenas. Thank you again to all of you!

So I just found this topic. I have had my mirena for four and a half years. Its due to be removed in november. I recently started the hcg diet protocol and my weight is coming off. HOWEVER, I started menstrating, even though I hadn't for quite a while before hcg.  Do any of you know if this will slow my weight loss down? If so, will I start losing again once my menstrual cycle subsides or will I continue to menstrate the entire time I am taking hcg?

I have had my Mirena IUD for almost 5 years.  It is due to be removed in August and I can't wait!  While it has been great as a contraceptive, I gained a little over 30 lbs within 1 year of having it!  *CRAZINESS*  I blew up like a blimp.  I have tried everything to lose the weight, including Phentermine with vigorous diet and exercising.  I cannot drop a single pound.  It is very discouraging and frustrating.  I cannot stand the way I look.  Before I had my IUD placed, I was only 154 lbs.  Now - I am 189 lbs.  No matter what I have done, nothing works.  Not just that, but the discomfort that I sometimes get during intercourse with my Husband makes it difficult at times.  I have also gotten skin problems since getting it as well.  I am more than ready to get this thing out!!!

After my third pregnancy I decided to get the Mirena IUD. I have weighted the same amount of weight for four and 1/2 years. I lose and gain the same five pounds. I have been on Weight Watcher for fours year and I believe the Weight Watcher leaders just feel so sorry for me. Before my IUD, I always could lose weight by diet and exercise. I even eat around 1400 calories per day and watch my fat, carb and sugar intake, plus I exercise around 4 to 5 days a week and still I can not lose weight. I am almost to the point to just stop eating just to prove to my doctor that the problem is not me, but the IUD.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I got my IUD in after my last child (2 1/2) years ago, I have gained weight, but I wasn't eating healthy or exercising regularly (other than the normal running after 2 children) and gained 10 lbs.  So far, I have lose 20 lbs (while still on IUD) and going for 15 to 20 more. And I've done it with "watching" what I eat (I don't believe in dieting, it never worked for me) and jogging/running. An old friend of mine told me when she lost a significant amount of weight she got pregnant while on the IUD. I DO NOT want to get pregnant again. Does anyone know if that's true or not? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I know your frustration believe me!, but not eating won't help. After buying into ALOT of dieting fads AND weight lose pills , still only losing 5 freaking pounds, I was depressed and wanted to give up. I stopped eating, (at least I tried) but my husband wouldn't let starve myself, and assured me that "we" can lose the weight and the fact that if I didn't eat, my body will store more fat, thinking that it will need more energy the future (He used the "hibernating bear" analogy...LOL) different story there... So that helped me alot, and the fact that I have a daughter who watches everything I do and say, I want her to feel and be comfortable with herself no matter what. SO my advice will be EAT, cry, throw tantrums(not around the children) and don't give up. When you do go to the doc, make sure there's no underline health problems, those would cause you weight gain as well ( family member had to go through that and she got help with, and lost 40 lbs.) Good luck to you and your family!!
