I was on the shot for a year, and recently skipped this month when it was due

I was on the shot for a year, and recently skipped this month when it was due. I have been experiencing pregnancy symptoms, but went to the dr and took a blood test and it was negative as well as the hpt. I was doing a little reading and read several women say that they had both negative at first too when they were really pregnant. Is this true?
