Had my Mirena inserted after the 3rd child, no period or problems for the last 5 years, and just had it replaced with a second one last week. Minimal bleeding and cramping for about a day after insertion, that was it. It has definitely been the best choice for me, and I love not having periods. :)

I've had mine for 5.5 years. I'm not using it for birth control, but rather for peri-menopausal bleeding. It has worked beautifully. No periods. No side effects. I'll have it removed this summer.

I was really suprised when I read the side effects people have experienced about the use of mirena. I feel lucky that I have never had those experiences as I have replaced it a second time after the first 5 years, So this is my 2nd year of the replacement, making a total of seven years and I always forget it is even there. The only thing I know is that I have gained some weight but I have also not been so much after healthy diet or exercising which could have also contributed to the weight gain. I am very happy that it works well for me and I have no cause to regret. After this second term five years, I hope to get it replaced if need be.

I have had my mirena for almost 4.5 years and recently have started bleeding as if I am having a period all over again and am wondering what that is all about!! I got the mirena for birth control so I wouldn't have to remember to take a pill everyday like I use too!! What is up with this?? Is anyone else having this problem???
