I have peripheral neuropathy and i am 79 years old this is very painful in my legs and feet and 2 epidurals have not made much difference my Neuro surgeon says I have stenosis in my back and neck and he suggested to try the epidurals first.I am afraid of the surgery if this doesn't work but if I could find a pain reliever that doesnt have have so many side effects i could try that first.Any suggestions?

There's no easy first choice. I have a similar issue due to damage from surgery, and the most effective medication for the neuropathic pain was marijuana. However, I personally found that the side-effects were unacceptable so I use opiate-based painkillers instead, which isn't as good at stopping the pain but for me has virtually no side-effects... But the problem is that especially with neuropathic pain, the response is highly variable, and there really isn't a simple answer.
