Hello. I'm 23 year old female and I have some very important questions which are bothering me for some time and they are about some aspects of sexual health. You see, I'm sexually active more then five years now and I hade several sex partners. Condoms are being used every time with no exceptions because I was afraid of some sexually transmitted disease. I was performing oral sex with every one of them because I like to do it and they liked it when I did it. Don’t get me wrong because every one of them also did it to me and I enjoyed. But there is one problem- I have never used any protection giving head to them and just recently I have heard that unprotected oral sex also bring some risks! Please tell me this isn’t truth.

Hello. I would really like to tell you that you are right and that unprotected oral sex isn’t dangerous but I would be lying.
Many sexually transmitted diseases can be transmitted via unprotected oral sex. Herpes, for example, can definitely be transmitted to the giver or receiver through unprotected oral sex if one of them is in the infectious stage, including when sores are not visible. So you could never tell for sure.
Even several other diseases such as Yeast infections, gonorrhea, and syphilis can be transmitted. I'm very sorry to say but although rare, it is possible to catch even the HIV virus from giving and receiving oral sex. Maybe the best thing for you to do is to contact your GP and do some tests to be sure you’re healthy and in a future- always use condom.
