Hi, I hope this info can help someone. I had urethral burning, bladder pressure, constantly needing to pee for almost a year. Gynecologist, urologist, urogynecologist all failed to diagnose me properly. I finally went to the National VulvodyniA Website and make an appointment with a Dr. from the list. She happens to be a urologist. She diagnosed me in 10 minutes. Provoked Vestibular Vulvodynia. There are 3 glands on your vagina that form sort of a triangle. The top one is right next to your urethra. The other 2 are near the labia minora on either side, forming the “base” of the triangle. Each time she pressed one of these glands with a q tip I jumped off the table. So what I thought was urethral burning was actually the gland right next to it. It is NERVE pain. Yes, they can burn all day and then get worse after urinating so the aqua phone or another lubricant can help keep the urine off of the glands. The best news is that there is a treatment!
Low dose antidepressant (calms the nerves)
Vaginal Valium (addresses pelvic floor tightness- a factor for me)
Gabapentin cream applied to glands 2x day ( nerve pain blocker)
URO MP- stops bladder spasms
Ophresta estrogen replacement 60 1x day for thinning of vulva, urethra, and vagina
I had already been using Estradiol cream but she switched me to oral because she wants me to use the gabapentin cream.
Guess what? After ONE DOSE of the antidepressant I felt better. The only thing I have used so far is the estrogen pill, antidepressant and the URO MP. After 3 days I feel 90 percent better and I’m still waiting for other meds to be ready as they are compounded at the pharmacy and will be delivered. I’m beginning to wonder if I will even need them.
I always swore if I found an answer I’d share it out as best I could. I truly hope this helps someone. I know what it’s like to feel so helpless and angry that nobody can help you. Good luck and God bless. Stay strong!

It can be a yeast infection or in my case, constipation. The vagisil for burning helps. It took me years to figure this out.

I have the same problem for almost two years now and have been to so many doctors and have been so confused as to what is happening to me. After reading this I feel like there’s no medical relief or cure. It started with a burning urethra when I woke up or if I held in my pee or had sex or wore anything tight, and now it’s my vagina as well. Penetration hurts and I get swollen after. My muscles are tense and my tissues are dry, they said probably from the pain I’m under. My sex life has been basically over for a while now and sex was something I really enjoyed before. The doctor thinks this has something to do with hormones and that I could benefit from physical therapy and a hormone doctor. Hope this information helps anyone as I’ve gone through so many doctors and confusion to get to this point.

I'm with you on that, They first said mine was pelvic floor myofacial pain and there's no real cure. So I went to physical therapy for a year and a half and it didn't help. I've been to every kind of doctor for 5 years now and I'm losing hope! I cry all the time and every procedure I've had does nothing but make it worse. I've realized now though that any procedure involving lidocaine makes me way worse.

I went to physical therapy for over a year and it did nothing. Been on all kinds of meds and lotions and creams and suppositories nothing. I've had procedures and test and nothing works. I'm thinking right now that the procedures done with lidocaine makes it way worse. God help us, its so painful I literally can't go anywhere or plan anything with my family or friends because of this pain!!

WHAT is the URO MP? Is that physical therapy but internal? I did that too for over a year but it didn't help so when i did find a doctor that prescribed meds for the nerves in there it worked great, no more pain ! Then i had knee replacement and after surgery because of the catheter they used during surgery it made it come back with a vengeance. Now I'm going to a urologist that has given me trigger point therapy but it made it hurt so much worse and one of the ingredients was lidocaine, that stuff kills me. She's called in some Gabapentin suppositories for me and I'm waiting on those. Dear Lord I hope they work. I've been given estrogen vaginal cream as well but never kept up with it, I suppose I should try it again. Thank you for the info I'm going to talk to my doctor again.

I havent suffered as long as any of you and that has made it possible to look back and see what I changed recently..I take vitamins and recently changed brands. I read that some vitamins and medications have buffers as ingredients and they can cause burning so stopped all new ones. also read where aspertame can cause this problem...while I waited for the changes to take affect I used A &D ointment locally to protect the area...SO FAR SO VERY GOOD..I DONT REALLY KNOW THE CULPRET BUT THE result is soooo good...no burning..I will go back to old products or reintroduce what I cant replace and see what happens.....also up water intake.

I have had this for probably the last 3 years and it is AWFUL but I did find something that really takes the pain away and feels sooo good. I take a glass rollar bottle and put about 20 drops of pure peppermint essential oil in it and fill the rest with coconut oil and apply it to my Urethra...Instant relief and really feels goooooddd.
