Is a person permanently immune to the covid-19  after successful recovering from the disease?

How would anyone know yet? Have to wait for the next pandemic to find out.

I've heard of people getting it twice, as in testing negative after previously being confirmed with coronavirus but then later testing positive again. Is it possible that you just don't build up immunity to this?

As njoynlife said how would anyone know yet, being a new virus not enough is known about it yet and could take many years of study to be able to come up with those answers.
Unless someone has a low immune system then maybe but normally the body of a healthy person will develope a certain amount of resistance.

There are some people who tests show have had it and didn't know it. Apparently it didn't affect them at all. I read today that they think it may have around for a decade or more without the serious consequences we are seeing now.

I had what I thought to be a mild cold back in Feb that lasted a lot longer than normal so Dr sent me for corvid test towards end of March an it came back positive an he said I probably just had a mild form of it.

Oh, geez ... you did a serologic test or a PCR? Basically it should depend on your immune response. More response more antibodies, right? Do you know what amount of antibodies they found in tests?

It was the serologic test that came back positive to confirm that I have had corvid-19 at some point.

Wow! Did you isolate when you had the symptoms?

I had no corvid-19 symptoms, no fever no dry cough no shortness of breath just like a mild cold that lasted longer than normal, that is the point I'm trying to make you can have it without the symptoms they are predicting and not even realise

This is my concern as well. I suffer from asthma and seasonal allergies. If I did get infected, I'd be more likely to have a serious case. As it is, my everyday symptoms fall into the range of those people are now becoming familiar with as belonging to C19. I don't go out much for self-protection, but sometimes I have no choice (with all the precautions possible). People catching me at a bad time will immediately suspect I have C19, however, while those same people may be asymptomatic and spreading it around as well.

Yeah, so it seems that there may be no immunity after catching it once. It was in the news today, the WHO was saying there's no evidence of this.

Does that mean this virus is here to stay for a really long time?

Immunity doesn't necessarily mean you won't catch it again it just means if you do get it your immune system will be better prepared to deal with it just like every strain of the flu virus when you first get a new strain of it you get it bad but next time because your immune system is boosted towards it you don't get it so bad.

I read some good news today. The COVID-19 vaccine is in a phase 1 of testing and shows promising results. Probably is available earliest in January 2021. Let's keep the fingers crossed!

Phase 1 testing still doesn't mean it's going to work yet, January 2021 is only speculation if clinical trials are successful.
