Hello, folks. I have some suspicious change on my uterus and my gynecologist says I should do the cone biopsy. I would like to know whether this is the same as cervical conization. Does anyone know this? I would be very grateful if anyone could help me with this. Thanks and bye!

Hello, there. Cone biopsy is the same as cervical conization. It is both diagnostic and therapeutic method. It is used when previous biopsy shows a precancerous condition in cervix. It is also performed when there is abnormal smear test of cervix (Papanicolaou). Cone biopsy brings many risks, so it is replaced with more modern procedures, except in few cases.
