I wonder if anyone has had these symptoms? I have the feeling of a constant knot in my chest, which is worse when i'm home alone at night, it seems to stem from an incident when i was on my own and got a very sore sternum, i saw a doc and that is all resolved (there is nothing wrong with me!) but I cant shake this tense feeling, I'm seeing a counsellor but have only seen her once so far, i also have worries as i am losing my job, do you think these feelings will resolve over time? and will the counsellor help? has anyone tried hypnotherapy?

Hi Whistle,

A tight chest is a symptom of anxiety; however, that is not to say that it definitely is. My suggestion would be is to see a doctor and let him know that you are feeling quite tense and are worried about the knot in your chest. Let him or her know that you are also seeing a counselor too. If it is anxiety, he may prescribe you something to help ease the symptoms. Research shows that therapy is effective in reducing stress and feelings of anxiety. I would give your counselor a few more times and see how it goes for you. Its hard to tell just after one session.

Wishing you all the best,
Cassie

Not to push my faith or anything, but I am happy and want to share what happened to me to encourage you. I was hiking in the Middle East and came down with a severe health issue called water intoxication. About six months later I had to be shock paddled while leading a group of about fourty teens on a trip. Because of these, I have been dealing with PTSD. It is like a switch went on that I couldn't control. This has been going on for five years now...every stinkin day. Also, part of my PTSD is a fear of losing control in a crowd again...which is hard because my job is a pastor....God has a sense of humor right? I have tried Prozac and it didn't help (although it certainly took the edge off). Xanax and that was a big waste, just made me tired. Anyhow, I have been praying and fasting for something totally unrelated for about five days now. While I was praying today, suddenly the switch turned off and I felt my body go, "Ahhhh." For the first time in five years! I am no one special. All I can say is, is that for me, Jesus did a miracle to my physiological issue. He clicked it off and finally after a long annoying time, I can learn how to be myself again. Hope the knot unravelsmformyou also.

Thanks for your testimony.  You got me to pray.  You're a pastor, and I'm not so great at prayer, or at anything to do with faith and observance.   I still have my bits of panic, or whatever, but I'm glad I prayed for a minute.  It can't ever hurt.

Hey Whistle, are you still dealing with the anxiety knot? I just found this post... I dealt with the same thing for years. So here's what happened: I ended up going to this place in Anchorage, Alaska called "White Raven Center" and they cured me of it in two hours. It was nuts. It was, basically, PTSD. How they explained it was trapped emotional energy from trauma, hurt, pain, etc. They helped me move it out through crying, screaming... even guided meditation where I was able to confront some of the trauma and heal from it. It was powerful.

So for what it's worth... you can check 'em out...

Thanks for sharing. I am very happy The Lord switched it off for you. Ive been praying for the same for myself. I think my PTSD started about 1 year after my friend committed suicide. It was unexpected and nobody knew. It was a shock and really changed me. My life is constant worry and mistrust in humanity. I love people but it's hard to get close to them. I am a PK aka Pastors daughter. I respect what you do and I know how demanding a Pastors job is. My Dad lives day and night serving the people are him and supporting his church family. I suppose it's God's way of teaching me how to trust Him more. I hope the knotunravelsfrommetoo :)
