hydrocephalus is very treatable. I would get a second opinion. I was diagnosed when I was 28 and was close to stroke stage. I was able to continue to work until I was 45 with only slight memory problems with a shunt placement. I had a revision at age 55 although it should have been sooner as shunts usually only last 10 years. I have some cognitive impairment but still function very well. I also have an arachnoid cyst which is near the brain stem. There are so many advancements please have her consider these before she terminates this pregnancy.

Hi I am a 4ft11 inch woman that has had 36 brain surgeries, shunts on the RT and left side and a crainaloptomy where they cracked my skull in half to release fluid that was pressing against my opticle nerve. I have a pain management Dr I see every month and occasional seizures but truly love life. I am and fighter and no God's not done with me yet. I was originally told I would love past 22 and I proved them wrong. I hope my story will give hope to those who suffer from this too and send love out to you all. Gina sandy

I had a brain haemorrhage at birth & my first shunt as inserted at the age of 6 months. I spent the majority of my childhood before my teens in & out of hospital with shunt problems or 'tube lengthening. Since then I have been 'lucky' & my last revision was in 2010 when my blocked 3 days before my 42nd birthday.
