Hi, folks. My friends have kid who is diagnosed with down syndrome. I know that this is genetically determined, so there isn’t much that can be done. I would like to find out more about the life expectancy for people with this type of syndrome. I would appreciate all your replies considering this.

Hi, there. People with Down syndrome have one chromosome more than healthy people. It is the pair of the 21st chromosome that has one more chromosome. Life expectancy nowadays is much better than 30 years ago. In 1980, average life expectancy was 25. However, things have changed now. The average life expectancy in 2002 was 49. In many cases, these people live after 50. I hope this helps. Bye!
