I was on Adderall for over a year, and it messed with my psychological, physical, and emotional well-being so much that I looked for alternatives and found a holistic program that allowed me to discontinue use of it and begin rebuilding my health. My adrenals were also largely affected by adderall which meant I was always exaughsted without it. The program I found was in Minneapolis, and is called the Health Recovery Center. If you give them a call, they would be happy to talk with you and see if it there's something they could do to help. I know it really saved my life. Best of luck to you, - Samara

Skip to the bold if you are ADD or don't feel like reading everything... I have been taking adderall for about 11 years. My prescription is 60mgs a day (15mg 4 times a day). I have to break 30mg tabs in half and I chew them up so that they work faster. I'm female, weigh about 125, 5'5''. Adderall is prescribed for 2 things: ADD and Narcolepsy. I'm Narcoleptic. Narcolepsy is a lot more complicated than most people think.... I diagnosed myself from what little info I could find online at that time, took it to my doctor, did a sleep test and was then diagnosed by a doctor. Narcolepsy in a few words, is a chemical imbalance where the brain does not have R.E.M. sleep at the proper time. Most of the time my brain thinks that 3pm is a good time to have REM. Not having REM at the right time and having screwed up sleep patterns can ruin your life. It is a rare disorder and in many cases, is probably misdiagnosed. I was 20 years old and I felt like I was 80. My 55 year old dad woke up at 5am and went to bed at 11pm and had energy all day long and he rarely even takes Advil. My symptoms of narcolepsy started at age 17 and I fell asleep during every class every day my senior year of high school. My teachers thought I was lazy or that I stayed up too late every night. I became a single mom at age 18. I had to raise a kid and work a full time job so I could not afford to have a disorder. I started taking ritalin when I was diagnosed (20yrs old) and after several months of the crazy mood swings I started taking adderall instead. No mood swings, no side effects. I go from being more tired than the normal person has ever experienced to feeling normal....not buzzed or like I'm on speed, but as normal as I have felt since I was a kid without signs of the disorder. I've got this narcolepsy thing down to a T, besides popping adderall pills 4 times a day, no one would ever suspect I have it. If adderall is bad for our bodies, then it is a very dangerous drug because it makes me feel pretty near to perfect.
I know that is has to be bad for me. But I have been pushing that thought out of my mind for years and justifying it with the fact that I want to be productive and make a great life for my daughter and I. I've been telling myself "I'll take the adderall for now, make my life great and then research until I find an alternative....and if I don't find one I'll just try to get off of it. But right now, I can't. I can't afford to lay in bed all day every day or to fall asleep behind the wheel, not to mention not be able to take road trips or run my business. I need to be alert and active everyday right now....I'll deal with getting off the adderall later."
Nothing else works for me. I lack neurons in my brain that tell my it when it's time to sleep and have REM. I need something strong to make my brain "stay awake" and adderall does the trick. My doctor tells me that my alternative is to take rohibinol (the date rape drug) 2 times a night to sleep really hard and maybe ease my symptoms during the day. Um, I don't think that taking rohibinol twice every night would be much safer than taking adderall, plus what if there was a fire or something in the middle of the night?! No thank you.
I'm 31 now and my heart doesn't feel right. I don't have health insurance right now so I can't get it checked out at this time. It feels like I might being having heart palpitations. It also feel like I have butterflies in my heart.... sounds dumb, but that's how I'm going to describe it. Almost like an anxious nervous feeling. I feel it 85% of the day. It's 1:45am, I last took adderall at 3:45pm today and my heart feels fluttery and anxious. There have been times that I woken up in the middle of the night and I can't feel my legs because they have fallen asleep. I never drink soft drinks. I am very health conscious. I don't smoke and rarely drink. If I do drink, even if it's just like 2 drinks, I'm sick the next day, puking at least every 45 min for at least 12 hours. Not sure if that has anything to do with adderall or not. I can usually research and find the answer to anything. I cannot find anything on adderall. That is scary because there should be info out there. It's almost as if the pharmaceutical companies keep us in the dark....well I know for certain most do. But I'm in denial about adderall because I'm not quite ready to get off of it. There should be more info on it because so many people take it. More than we realize. There have been a couple of times that I have gone to every pharmacy in our city and surrounding cities and they were all out of 30mg tabs. Isn't that a high dosage? Are that many people taking this drug??
Is my brain being effected to? When I'm off the drug, I can't get out of bed.... I thought it was because I was a narco, but after reading all of the posts here, I'm not so sure. Like others here on this forum, I can't remember the easiest of words or even sometimes names of people that I should remember.... I'm so worried about it that I bought a book on Alzheimer's the other day.
Here on this forum, many people have social and emotional problems that very well could be a result from adderall.... but that's not 100% certain. I have a kid so I can't shut myself in or be angry.... I don't have time to think about that stuff, maybe I would if I didn't... I am so much more emotional about things now that I have ever been in my life though. But it's happy and sad things. I think that maybe that just comes with age, after you suffer through things you see things differently maybe? Anyway, right now I'm concerned mainly with physical effects. I saw a couple of the more recent posts that talked about their hearts. I've never posted on a forum before but I'm desperate for info and I also thought that stating that my heart feels like there is something definitely wrong with it and I feel that it's because of adderall, might be helpful if others out there who have been taking as much for as long as I have are feeling the same symptoms.
To anyone who has recently started taking adderall or who is wondering if they should start: My advice: DO NOT TAKE IT. Try to find a healthy alternative if you have been diagnosed with ADD. I believe that they are out there if you search hard enough. I cannot have a normal, functional life without it and not only is it probably very bad for me, I HATE that I have to depend on it.

I've read this thread all the way up to this post, I've noticed that all of you have great writing skills with very much detail and perception, probably the adderall. Anyways, I've taken a couple of tests that suggest I have extreme ADD, I can't cope with anxiety, I doze off, I struggle with excessive information, etc.... my problem is when I was 13 I decided I would try a drug, marijuana. Ever since then I've relieved my struggles through this, becoming an empty entity all around. I was afraid of getting prescribed to Adderall as I have seen some people tell me its addictive, which is what I don't need. However, smoking an illegal substance is not going to help as well, I need to get out of this confined hell hole but I don't know how and it only buries me deeper.... down to the wrench of my faults, pairing up whenever I can, with good old Mary Jane, knowingly she is only tearing me apart even more from the inside out, with ever breath I take from her relaxing, smooth lips.

I feel like I am probably the best person around to comment on ADD. I have taken a similar medication since I was 7. I am now 28. I don't abuse the medication, in fact I hate the way it makes me feel, but it does help me with concentration so I continue to take it. All the way through middle school and high school I took 45 mg daily. When I graduated high school and put on some weight my dose doubled. I have been on 70 mg daily for 10 years, I take the medication daily(365 days a year). I have had some side effects but by far the worst is sweating in my under arms. It is really embarrassing. Also I sometimes notice the fast heart beat.
When I read the posts on here it makes me feel ill. I have taken this medication for literally all my life, and the benefits are incredible, but some of the people posting here have been taking the meds for the wrong reasons. If you truly have ADD, then you realize just how much the medication improves your quality of life and makes everyday tasks more "normal". Just because you take a medication everyday for an extended period of time doesn't make you an addict. There is a difference between being dependent on a medication and being addicted to a medication. If you are taking a medication for any reason other than the one it is prescribed for, then you aren't going to get the medical benefit.
Individuals that have ADD have a sort of imbalance of the chemical dopamine in their brain. Their bodies produce too little of that chemical. Therefore when we take medication like adderall, it actually creates a more "normal" level of that chemical. If you are just taking this medication because you think it is going to help you on a test in college or help you get better grades or maybe help you stay awake so you can survive on less sleep, your way off. If you truly don't have ADD, then you are potentially damaging your brain (much like that of an addict) by having an incredible overload of dopamine. This drug doesn't make you get better grades, it improves concentration and is truly an important medication for people who have ADD. You still have to earn your achievements and learn the material. I saw in an earlier post that someone make a comment about a doctor, and that if he earned his degree while taking this medication that he somehow would forget all of his knowledge when he stopped taking the meds. What you are describing is called state-dependent learning, and is associated with being "high" or "drunk", due to taking large amounts of meds or alcohol. It is important to note that when these medications are used to treat ADHD the dosage is much less than what addicts use to get high. When people are properly medicated they should not feel high or "speedy, instead they will report increases in their abilities to concentrate, control their impulses, and moderate their activity level.
Overall what I am trying to say to people is this: If you are experiencing these horrible side effects and you are taking only the prescribed dosage, then you should talk with your prescribing doctor and stop the medication. If you don't actually have ADD or ADHD then you shouldn't be taking the medication in the first place, and when medications are miss-used and abused they become very dangerous. This can be an amazing medication for people living with ADD or ADHD, but it's not always the answer and it's not the only answer. Being dependent on a medication is not a bad thing, ADD is an illness, therefore you are taking a maintenance medication to improve your quality of life, much the same as a diabetic takes insulin. From my experience, most people don't have problems from long term use unless they are long term abusers of the medication. Don't get me wrong though, this can be a very dangerous drug, and it does effect people differently.
If you have any questions I will be more than happy to answer them.

hello everyone,
I am not a blog reader, nor have i ever made an internet post before. Yes, all of you reading this are witnessing my blog virginity being stripped from me. I was casually reading some posts people were making about adderall and its effects on my way down from my own adderall induced, night long, homework excursion; when i just couldnt help my self after about the 20th ridiculous post i read (not sourcing from this thread) about how adderall is a necessity; and that every 6 year old should be put on it. in response to the heavy topic being discussed above, i want to tell you that you are in my prayers that you get whatever help you may need. but reading all of this made me think that I might just have a pretty “out-there” point of view, or could just be stating the obvious. everyone lives a life with struggle, and some happen to struggle a little more than others. but we all deal with it in our own ways. Some people turn drugs (prescription or non), and for others, those struggles build up to become to much to handle, where you would consider taking your own life(completely unreasonable to me, but thats another thread, another post. and i can also respect the choices people make). Something that i have figured out recently in my life, that a lot of people(myself included) havnt FULLY grasped yet, is how powerful the mind really is. Not saying that people dont need medicine for the occasion, but it really set in for me, that our society is taking drug use to a whole other level. So we know i am not being bias here, i am prescribed 50mg of vyvanse, and 20mg of adderall daily, which i take when i feel necessary(usually once every couple weeks). i understand, adderall makes things a hell of a lot easier, and its just plain fun to take on the occasion. But my gosh! people are knowingly and willingly getting themselves addicted to this stuff, and for what reason? Because their all-knowing doctor thinks that nice dose of speed ought to set that 9 year old straight? Since they are so hyper at such a young age, there obviously must be something wrong with them. When I was 9 you couldn’t pay me to sit still; and no, not because I had ADHD. It was because I was 9! And full of energy! Whatever happened to just being a kid? And entertaining yourself by running around in the yard? You sure wont catch a kid on adderall doing that. Maybe parents now a days are forgetting that that’s what being a kid entails. Or maybe they just expect their young ones to be just as serious, and straight forward as they are? I used to abuse adderall, and still do on the occasion(considering they werent intended for 48hr study sessions) but there comes a point when you have to step back and look at what your doing! Just read the label on your bottle people, it doesnt take a genius to realize adderall is just a society accepted form of meth. We can all point the finger at the inner-city meth user as we shake our heads in disapproval; but were buying something so similar, and then broadcasting that EVERYONE with a self-diagnosed ADHD disorder should have it. and What happens when you want to quit? Your gonna experience a strand of the same withdraw symptoms your local meth addict is having. This is a whole different argument; but not even as a child did i believe in this mysterious ADHD disease I was hearing so much about. I would call it a lack of motivation; or simply not wanting to pay attention. Yes, i am prescribed, and happy about it, but it turns into another deal when kids today are legitimately believing they have this undetectable "disease" that prevents them from learning, and thats whats to blame for their low math scores. If you want something bad enough, i guarantee you find a way to make sure it happens. All of these unfocused children who cant stay interested in the less entertaining times (myself included), sure don’t seem to have problem giving you their full attention when it comes to getting something they want. Maybe their ADD just wasn’t flaring up at the moment? I am 21 now and still have not fully learned what it means to have priorities, and responsibilities; the things just need to get done, medication or not. It just so happens that remembering logarithmic formulas isnt too high on many peoples priorities list. And i keep reading all this stuff about people wanting to know if Aderall is bad to take regularly. i thought it was common sense that Ingesting ANY foreign substance into your body isnt good for you? i read a post a while ago from an 8yr old kid whos doc put him on 100mg of vyvanse daily. After repeatedly trying to tell his doc, AND OWN PARENTS that it was so much he couldnt hardly produce words, they continued to FORCE this 8yr old to keep taking this dosage so high im surprised he didnt have an aneurism! that poor child is experiencing his whole elementary career in a constant teeth clenching thrill ride, due to an amount of speed so large it would probably kill a small animal. This kid actually had nobody to ask for help and had to put a cry for help on a forum post! But mom and dad are doing him a favor, and saving his grades. Hell have plenty of time to thank them later in life when he still lives at home due to his social anxiety, and absence of friends. I used to be dependent on it as i said, and one day i realized that it was stupid that i was basing my life around taking this "magic pill", and just stopped cold turkey. I remained off of it until i proved to myself i wasnt using it as a crutch. Yea i will say that those next few weeks werent my best, or most productive of times. But the sense of satisfaction i got from knowing that if i really wanted to, i can control what i do with myself, was indescribable. the point im trying to make is that a little confidence, and self-worth will do more for you than you could imagine, or any drug for that matter. Im not saying everyone go quit taking your meds tomorrow, but for those of you who feel dependent on it, or simply cant imagine life without it; i urge you, for your own sake, to take a break every now and then to show yourself your more in control than you really think. That especially goes with suicidal thoughts hands down, telling yourself that life sucks isnt gonna get you any further than finding more things that you hate about yourself. Having a positive outlook on life, even in the sh*t times, is key to feeling good, looking good, and just naturally being high on life. It takes a super strong person to be in control of their own mind; and straying away from those un-needed commodities, is a good step toward getting a true grip on life. And for all of you that cant imagine life without adderall, or whatever your taking, i always thought about how people got by before that sh*t started flooding our schools. history showed us its possible to do without, so why are so infatuated, with needing to take a pill so we can cruise the easy route all the time? In conclusion to my first novel, I hope that i could have changed someones outlook, at least a little, on what is really a necessity, and what we justify to be one. I will continue to take my meds when need be, and live my life to the fullest; i can only pray that you can find the strength to realize how in control you are; and the impact you can have on others. For some of you that might mean being as un-reliant on the little things you dont really NEED. Well for those of you who made it through my first public rant, i thank you for reading, and i wish you all the best of luck. Post-adderall-Hibernation will now commence. ;)

Completely agree with the guy above. I know two people specifically who have been on this drug for years and they both live completely normal, hand tremble free lives. I think just maybe your experience with this drug has made for an easy, generally understandable excuse to hide from whatever it is in life that you fear. Obviously I could be way off base, but if I am even close the negative thoughts you are having toward this drug could very well be the cause of your troubles. All traces of the drug is gone but your mind is still manifesting these thoughts into physical symptoms. Or perhaps their are other reasons that would explain the adverse health effects seen in recent years. Age or a more serious issue? anyways, moral of the story being, smoke weed.

This topic looked like a place where I could get a few questions answered. I've been taking adderall xr 15mg for over a year now. I do not abuse it, but I really love the way it makes me feel. Before adderall I was a C student. After using adderall for little over a year I graduated with a 3.4. In my first 3 years of college I was really outgoing and partied all the time. After a year on aderrall I tended to stray away from socializing and terminated many friendships. Im sure other people have had different experiences on the drug, but if anyone can relate to me please give me some advice or some insight on the topics below( for example how can I learn to adjust to these behaviors while on the drug):
1. I feel easily agitated and paranoid(not to a dangerous extent, more like I feel insecure) at peak hours of the drug.
2. I have trouble sleeping at night, so sometimes I use sleeping pills.
3. Are there long term health effects of the drug? Does adderall destroy parts of the brain?
4. When I'm on the drug I do not feel like socializing and in addition I tend to lack empathy(not caring about others feelings) while on the drug.
Just want to know if other people have had the same experience as I have had and if so how did you cope with it?

Hey man. I am an aspiring neurochemist myself, looking into the field of organic chemistry and drug discovery. What your experiencing IMHO (and I'm not a doctor yet!! haha) classic signs of your dopamine receptors being completely utterly downregulated. What was wrong was - you took that long break which is fantastic - but you didn't do anything to RESTORE your free dopamine (not bound, ie - it can be used) and help your D1-D4 receptors (I believe only d1 and d2 play a role in amphetamine, but d3 and d4 help with tolerance issues like your describing). What you need is simply a month break from the adderall (I'd taper down first, don't quit cold turkey - if you did that, that could be why you're experiencing - what is clearly a nilhilistic depression (from a lack of dopaminergic, and possibly other factors such as androgenic and other hormone levels - it may not be a dopamine problem at all but could be a thyroid imbalance, a lack of testosterone, too much estrogen, too much prolactin or cortisol - or DHT - there's so many hormonal imbalances that could be causing this - get a COMPELTE blood work up done on your levels (and have them checked by someone who KNOWS what they're talking about - your GP or anyone they reccomend (esp. urologists) will MOST-TIMES have a severe lack of knowledge in this area, it would be helpful to get someone who specializes in hormonal therapy to help you out - could be an HGH problem, and your doc's may just be passing the buck onto another doctor instead of treading in waters they don't feel comfortable in)
But - like I was saying - you need to restore your neurotransmitters effected by adderal with the proper amino acid pre-curser for their respective chemicals IE - Dopamine, Norepinephrine and Epinephrine (aka Noradrenaline and Adrenaline) - which is very easy - get a complete amino acid complex that contains L-Tyrosine (provides dopamine and norepinephrine) , L-Phenylalanine (provides dopamine) and in chemistry terms - these both provide epinephrine as well, as In chemical terms, epinephrine is one of a group of monoamines called the catecholamines. It is produced in some neurons of the central nervous system, and in the chromaffin cells of the adrenal medulla from the amino acids phenylalanine and tyrosine.
You can help restore your dopaminergic system in the night (and they have a nice libido boosting sexy side effect aswell hahaha), BEST, with the newest class of anti-parkinsons/restless legs syndrome dopamine agonists - Requip (I can vouch for this personally as I take .5 mg every night) and Miraplex (which works in the same fasion as ropinirole (requip) but I hear has more side effects and is more drowsy) or the older medications (which have less of an efficacy here but will work none-the-less, but tolerance builds to them) like L-Dopa, (found with another drug, in the RLS medicine Sinemet, naturally found in Mucuna Prurienes or Velvet Bean (seeds) (you can find 15% L-Dopa Velvet Bean Extract in alot of night time "recovery" products from gnc - I use animal PM. Which also contains - GABA (taken at night will stop the firing from the adderall, allowing the receptors to get some must needed rest and your body to rebuild receptors, and muscles, fibers etc - Arginine alphaketoglutarate (AKG) which (may or may not, depending on how the coin roles, as it is a analog of l-arginine) increases NO and NO2 output (nitric oxide - naturally vasodiolator - allowing blood to flow everywhere it needs to - so the nutrients get to those hard to reach places)
It has Ornithine HCl - Ornithine is the starting point for cocaine biosynthesis, when decarboxylased, then modified greatly by Cytochrome P450.
L-Ornithine supplementation attenuated fatigue in subjects in a placebo controlled study using a cycle ergometer. The results suggested that L-ornithine has an antifatigue effect in increasing the efficiency of energy consumption and promoting the excretion of ammonia.
L-Ornithine reduced stress in mice and made them more sociable toward other mice as well as the scientists conducting the experiment.
L-Ornithine L-aspartate (LOLA), a stable salt of ornithine and aspartic acid, has been used in the treatment of cirrhosis.
Animal PM: Which also has Humanofort (which you CAN buy separately as humanofort, humanogrowth or humanotropin') - an Embryonic Peptide Matrix Yielding Naturally Occurring IGF-1, IGF-2 (Insulin Growth Factors), FGF (Fibroblast Growth Factors), NGF (Nerve Growth Factors), EGF (Epidermal Growth Factors), CTGF (Connective Tissue Growth Factors).
and Imunulin is a specialized immunoglobulin concetrate from bovine serum - providing IgG1, IgG2, IgM and IgA factors - that boost your immune system - which an immuno-deficincency CAN ALSO produce the symptoms your describing!)
Getting your proper amino acids - essential fatty acids - vitamins (b's, c, d's and e at the very least) - minerals (ESPECIALLY in the case of adderall - Zinc Oxide, Magnesium Oxide, Manganese Sulfate, Selenium AND Vitamin B6 (preferably in the form of Pyridoxine HCl) taken at night time these will help restore your bodys natural balance)- trace elements and helpful herbal supplementation can help stop desensitization of your receptor sites - help them grown new neurons (ie the humanofort and imunulin) - and generally just make you feel all around healthy and happy - you will be pleasantly surprised if you took something like - Animal Pak - that has all the stuff you need in one convient pak to be taken once daily (not just for body builders! also great for people in poor health or with awful diets, although nothing is a substitute for proper nutrition) at how amazing and happy / healthy you'll feel - invigoratted (and this is before I took my adderal - and I like you have been on ritalin/adderal/vyvanse/dexedrine/desoxyn since 5 til now 23 - and stopped cold turkey (along with prozac, and seroquel... NOT a good idea but I lived with very few side effects thankfully) for 4 years - no problems even without the supplementation I take now (with my adderall, I basically started the supplementation because I noticed things you are experiencing) - then I hit a tough spot in my life, fiscally, had to move home from my apartment, shitty paying job, cant afford a thing, and it seems like debt and death keep piling up - I like you have treatment resistant depression, along wtih anxiety and severe insomnia (ie Ive been on every sugar pill they pass off as an anti-depressant AND ARE NOW REPURPOSING for things like OSTEOPEROSIS for christ sakes *facepalm* - ie cymbalta) - These pills LITERALLY have been proven time and time again (every SSRI, SNRI, ALL those reuptake BS etc etc etc) have the less efficacy than a sugar pill - across the board in humans in clinical trials and in most psychiatric practices - so don't count yourself out or anything - have you TRIED the older medications - they do have more side effects and would possibly require quitting the adderall but some people have FANTASTIC success with a TCA, TeCA or MAOI (follow the diet!! and absolutely NO adderall for god sakes lol). The only thing that has every worked for me has been a stimulant in the morning and a benzodiazepine at night time (formerly anti-psychotics - like trazodone and seroquel - which are chemical straight jackets - shutting off your recetpros across the board willy-nilly making you comatose at night time, and zombie during the day, same with those quasi-anti-depressant-psychotic etc meds they try to give you - like Lamictal and Lithium bleeh)
But I've literally been on prozac, paxil, trazodone, seroquel, seroquel xr, buspar, zoloft, wellbutrin, (which is also marketed as a stop smoking drug *facepalm again* zyban... YOU CAN'T MESS WITH NEUROCHEMISTRY LIKE THAT - these people have no idea they're taking an anti-depressant and if they miss a dose or forgot to fill their prescription they could have horrible, possibly deadly side effects - or suicidal thoughts/actions. Any doctor prescribing these off-label should have his license revoked... and TCA/TeCAs for me - never again, my family reacts awfully to tca's and teca's - my dad was prescribed amitryptaline again OFFLABEL for back pain (AN EMREGENCY ROOM DOC told him to stop cold turkey.... can you believe that?! the sheer stupidity is ASTOUDING) so he stops - thrown into a manic depression, takes his whole bottle of pills in a suicide attempt and ends up in the mental hospital (would have been dead if I didnt need to go to school that morning, running late and my mom stepped on one of his pills, then couldn't wake him and called 911)
Wouldn't touch an MAOI with a stick as I believe the occasional (with proper mental set, space and setting - with plan/improvents in mind) psychedelic theraphy can be life-chaning, physically, emotionally, spiritally and mentally. Its a shame we live in such a close minded world - the war on drugs, terror and porn has destroyed more lives (psychological stressers ie taboos inflicted by society on innocent babies - via religion, law enforcement (peace keepers, my ass) and judges - the black brotherhood lmao) than any other - and these therapies have been found to be 10x as effective as any sugar pill re-uptake c**p they want to shove down your throat.
Also - since your depressed - are you sure it's just NOT simply a nutrient / diet problem?? If your not getting the proper ammount of fats, sugars, proteins, fiber and carbohydrates (along with all your vitamins, aminos, minerals etcetc) you WILL NOT have energy, period. I don't care if you shot a mix of meth, coke and mdpv lmfao - you'll still feel groggy and tired, and be FAR FAR more taxing on your body phsyically and your emotional state mentally than if you had a proper meal with all your necesary nutrients (your body is a big chemistry-computer-machine - getting all your nutrients, vitamins, aminos etc etc makes sure all the proper chemical proceces happen the way they're supposed to and in a way that benefits your health the most (ie lack of B vitamins will cause a severe lack in energy, as they're co-factors in the metabolism of many different procceses in your body)
Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin and is part of the vitamin B complex group. Several forms of the vitamin are known, but pyridoxal phosphate (PLP) is the active form and is a cofactor in many reactions of amino acid metabolism, including transamination, deamination (cleaving "amines"), and decarboxylation (. PLP also is necessary for the enzymatic reaction governing the release of glucose from glycogen.
Also - Not everyone needs B-12 supplements. A true deficiency of Vitamin B-12 can be detected through blood work at your doctor’s office. A true deficiency can lead to fatigue, memory loss and depression symptoms. B-12 is a water-soluble vitamin, which means that excess amounts, taken as supplements for example, will be excreted in urine, so it’s relatively safe to use B-12 daily. Most people need only a daily multivitamin to get enough B-12.
Just do a little reading about your Bio-chemical-proccessing machine haha: for expample - just this wiki article alone will let you know why these things such as CoSubstrates, CoFactors, and (it makes me laugh when people don't know their amino acids - they're the building blocks of our RNA, DNA and all Proteins & Fats - so basically they are responsible for the proper maintainment of our ENTIRE body!!) are so important to the break down and processing of almost every type of energy we ingest, from vitamins to protein (infact some protein is useless without it)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cofactor_(biochemistry)
Taking a cAMP and sAME supplement may help on the cellular level (cAMP is energy on the molecular - atomic level - Cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP, cyclic AMP or 3'-5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate) is a second messenger important in many biological processes. cAMP is derived from adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and used for intracellular signal transduction in many different organisms, conveying the cAMP-dependent pathway. As fore SAMe - or S-Adrenosyl-methionine - More than 40 metabolic reactions involve the transfer of a methyl group from SAMe to various substrates, such as nucleic acids, proteins, lipids and secondary metabolites. Which is highly important in liver function (methylated compounds = liver toxins. Can be taken care of with Queritin, Bio-flavinoids, flavones and saponins (from, and along with) other natural compounds like saw palmetto, dandelion root, grapeseed extract, etc etc - the list goes on)
and if it's that MENTAL Edge your missing - I'd HIGHLY reccomend (somedays I don't even feel I need the adderall when I take enough of them in the proper way) NOOTROPICS - Smart Drugs. They give a mental acuity and enhancement in memory encoding - allows your hemispheres of your brain to communicate and can even act as neuroprotectants against excess Glutamate and Calcium, which can be excitotoxic causing apotosis (death of a neuron). My personal favorite is the Racetam class - which act on your AMPA receptors - the first and least potent but most widely known, tested and used by people is Piracetam - it does not actively cross the blood brain barrier and needs as a Choline supplement to do so (Choline Bitatrate, Citicholine aka CDP Choline, Alpha GPC, Phospholipidserine, centrophenoxine and phospholipidcholine) - others include Oxiracetam and Aniractam (which actually has an anxiolytic effect aswell) - my personal favorite because it is the most effective and immediately noticable , crosses the BBB and doesn't need a choline supplement (but it helps ALOT and will stop the common headache side-effect if you get this) is NOOPEPT - its 1000x stronger than Piracetam and by far the most effective IMHO. You only need 10 to 20 mg (max) with around 200 mg of choline bitartrate (the cheapest, and easiest to find version - while the others are more bio-available or further down the conversionline). The goal being to increase your Acetylcholine levels -
Break down of Nootropics:
http://www.longecity.org/forum/topic/36691-ten-months-of-research-condensed-a-total-newbies-guide-to-nootropics/
Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nootropic
LONGECITY and LIVESTRONG are great resources for information on these sort of things (or Pubmed/Publine if you have access and are medical/chemically savvy and want to stay on the cutting edge of research) and I find that bodybuilding.com has an amazing dictionary on almost every supplement, vitamin, or chemical on the market (minus nootropics for the most part) for everything from mental health to fat lose, weight gain and muscle gain (of course haha).
proper Sleep is also VITAL to your energy levels - adderall might keep you going but you WONT feel any sort of euphoria or focus - it'll be dysphoric and taxing on your brain and anatomy (you can feel it). Naturally this can be achieved with (as i stated before GABA to stop the dopamine firing at night - doesnt effect the L-Dopa of Velvet bean or the RLS drugs though as they work through a different mechanism I believe) - L-Tryptophan (the turkey day sleepys) - Valerian Root (in powder or tea if you like the taste - takes 2 weeks to really become effective like st. johns wort) which also acts via the GABA receptors - down stream - possibly through the VMAT or some other mechanism we do not understand in our brain yet, and Chamomile (again in powdered form or tea - which is quiet yummy). Another fantastic supplement (grouped with the nootropics, as the night time "downer" sort of - but it still retains very little sedation, gets rid of anxiety (Gaba-B agonist, and GabaB agonism works specifically to counter-act and balance your dopamine/epi/norepi levels - see Xyrem) called PHENIBUT. Cheap as can be - works like a charm - can be a bit addictive (but its very light - baclofen meets xyrem but far far far less potent haha, and of course not GHBreceptor agonism, sadly - GHB was and still is THE best anti-depressant created by man - and IS NOT A DATERAPE DRUG (if you've ever tasted how freakin' salty it is - you would know why you can't slip 5 grams of the stuff into someones drink without them noticing...) It was DEMONIZED by a MEDIA ASSULT that CONFUSED it with ROHYPNOL (a fast-long acting-long half life benzodiazepine commonly known as the "Roofie")... They could not be MORE different as Rohypnol is a GABA-A Agonist like every other BZD (benzodiazepine).
The funny thing - all the GABA PAMs, GabaB agonists and GHBreceptor agonists research was finished, all patented drugs taken off the market by the FDA and made illegal - barbituates, quaaludes, xyrem, all taken off the market because of this, well maybe not the first two as high profile celebritiy death had to do with that - thanks ALOT judy garland and marolyn... and replace by what - THE VERY CLASS OF MEDICATION THAT CAUSED THE HYSTERIA IN THE FIRST PLACE. Basically they took away a helpful otc medication that worked better than any prescription drug (GHB was available in every GNC accross the nation in huge gallon tubs back in the day legally) for sleep, anxiety, depression and social problems (great and safer alternative to alcohol as long as not mixed with any other sedatives or alcohol - and properly measured with a scale (LIKE PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT THE POWDER FROM GNC COULD - NOT LIKE THE DEALERS MIXING god know how much into a soluable liquid or solvent - and selling it by the "capful" at a rave - thus you have no idea what the solvent is - how much is in it or how many ML of the compounded liquid your taking... THAT was the real problem - people accidentally overdoing it and passing out on the dance floor (like ANYOTHER SEDATIVE IN THE WORLD - IT WILL CAUSE RESPITORY DEPRESSION AND EVENTUAL DEATH... you can't demonize it for that - alcohol is worse in this respect)
There are also certain supplements that will effect HOW your body aborbs your adderall (and how efficently it gets used) - ie if you take a fiber supplement or a fiber rich food (or source like the physlymm fiber (SP?) powder - orange bottle - forget the name muci-something? haha) will slow down absorption or possibly cause it to not be absorbed at all (bunched up with all the fiber and passed in feces instead of 2nd pass metabolism) - absorption can be slowed (and there by increasing duration, and possibly making it feeel like you've taken more than you actually have/doubling effect) by having too BASE of a stomache (sodium bicarbonate - think tums and gastic acid reducers like Tagamet and Zantac - which effect the cytochrome in your liver responsible for metabolizing the amphetamine(s) (adderal is a racemic of 4 types of ampehtamine) - thus why you will also see no Grapefruit or Grapefruit Juice (same cytochrome). Not sure how PPI's like Omperazole interact (or if they even do) as the mechanism is completely different (proton pumps vs. liver enzymes)
Having too ACIDIC (alkaline) of a stomache will cause your adderall to be absorbed RAPIDLY (feeling it faster, hitting you harder - but leaving your system quicker as the citric acid cycle is what breaks down amphetamines metabolites to be excreted) - this means any thing acidic (your stomach is already acidic) - including citric acids (from lemons, limes, organs, grapefruit, vitamin c (ascobic acid, basically anythign with "acid" on the end) - Acetic acid (ie - VINEGAR) - and foods/juices like Cranberries and tomatoes--including pasta sauces, pizza, salsa, chili and ketchup - Fresh mint and mint oils relax the esophageal sphincter, allowing acid to escape the stomach and burn the esophagus, Wellsphere says. Other foods that increase stomach acid are black pepper, garlic, onions, chili peppers and vinegar, which is used in salad dressings, ketchup and mustard products. Any fatty foods, Alcohol (one that I didnt even know till I looked it up) as I have GERD myself using omeprazole daily and tagamet ocasionally) etc etc
Looking at a food's acidity and alkalinity can help you develop a healthy eating plan that focuses on the appropriate pH balance for your body - and learning the signs of an overly acidic or basic stomach (they BOTH manifest as GERD/Acid Reflux symptoms only one isnt acid at all - infact alot of GERD and the like is misdignoised and these people are making it worse because their problem is TOO basic of a stomach Ph - not too acidic.
Hope all that info helps haha - took me hour or two to write up - but its all info thats helped me IMMENSELY. Ive been where you are - and it may seem hopeless - but you just gotta think outside the box - learn your body - and do some research yourself - the GP's these days all use desktop refrence books, and have outdated knowledge or don't re-school, or read pubmed/line articles or subscribe to journal publications with scientific studies. Our knowledge of chemicals and our bio-chemistry enhances and changes in complexity - EXPONENTIALLY each day (if not, by this time - ALL knowledge is increasing exponentially atleast once an hour or so, possibly even in the minute range now. Check out the Jumping Jesus Phenomena (a lecture series can be found on mp3 and from his book "Right Where Your Sitting Now" Robert Anton Wilson (greatest thinker this side of the 20th century RIP RAW/Uncle Bob) J for Jesus being the unit of measurement of knowledge attained by humanity up to the time of Christ - 1 BC, a logical name for the unit of mesurment - just like the WATT of electricity. If your interested - his official site is like an archive of all his ideas - http://www.rawilson.com/sitnow.html (this is the specific Jumping Jesus Phenom. page)
for those to lazy - I'll sum it up in his words as I'm no where near as eloquent:
"Our psychic universe is expanding even more rapidly than the physical universe. Let us define the measurement of known scientific facts in the year 1 A.D. as "one jesus," using the name of the celebrated philosopher born that year.
Before going any further, let us ask how long it took to arrive at one jesus. One way of estimating is to take the estimated age of homo sapiens, in which case it took 40,000 to 100,000 years.
How long did it take to double this accumulation of knowledge, to achieve two jesuses? It required 1500 years - until 1500 A.D. How long did it take to double again and obtain four jesuses? It required 250 years, and we had four jesuses in our larder by 1750.
The next doubling took 150 years, and by 1900 A.D. humanity had eight jesuses in our information account. The next doubling took 50 years, and by 1950 we had 16 jesuses. The next, ten years, and by 1960 we had 32 jesuses. The next doubling took seven years, and by 1967 we had 64 jesuses. And the next doubling took 6 years; by 1973 we have 128 jesuses.
There is no reason to imagine that the acceleration has stopped. Thus, we almost certainly reached 256 j around 1978-79 and 512 j in 1982.
In short, we are living in a mental transformation space; that is, an omnidimensional halo expanding toward infinity in all directions. And the electronic center of this halo of mentation is possibly everywhere. It is all available to you right where you are sitting now. Just plug in a terminal. The machine doesn't care who or what you are."
With the numbers in his speaking tour - and the math worked out - its very possible where near that "omega point" so to speak where knowledge is increasing exponentially in all areas every second (and past the point where we can even measure it - unless we could find a way on the quantum scale - but good luck with that equation my friend lmao i'm not touching the actual mathematical side - theortically/mechanically quantum physics (and by proxy quantum psychology) makes perfect sense just not mathematically haha too many intergers and formulas / models I do not understand (planks constant , etc).
Also - don't forget EXERCISE and RELAXATION - regular excersize stimulates natural dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine release and will help you upregulate your currently downregulated receptor sites (due to overstimulation) - anerobic and aerobic. Meditation - tai chi and yoga can all help you get your mental under your own conscious control aswell as NLP (Neuro Lingusitic Programming - simple brain change games/tricks using well known and tested models through out the years that work, an cutting out the BS that does not - Richard Bandler and Phil H Farber are the two best, well trusted IMHO (Bandler being its creator, and to this day is still innovating and modeling new things - recalibrating his systems to be work for everyone - NLP is the only psycho-theraphy of any kind that can claim to have cured a phobia - and they can do it without knowing (OR CARING!, not that tehy don't care - but making you dissosciate and attach from that is important - so they don't wanna know) your phobia... a simple technique can stop a phobia in about 5 minutes (bandler can do it in 5 minutes - without putting you under hypnosis, while your standing talking to him... - just by watching his semniar - by using a technique (im sure has a more eloquent name) but I call "stories within stories, within stories" - brings on a waking trance in the whole audience, even on a crappy cam-recorded version. Now that's talent)
Never understimate the power of your SELF to change in accordance with your own WILL. If you have the Will Power and the Motivation - you can do it. You can learn anything, change ANYTHING about yourself - aslong as you work hard enough at it and know how to go about adressing it FROM ALL ANGELS - not just in diet, exercise, sleep, pills, supplements, vitamins, or mental training techniques like the martial arts, tai chi, yoga and meditation (which is actually just one of the "8 Limbs" of Yoga - the yoga you all know as "YOGA" is actually again, just 1 arm of the 8 limbs of yoga (2 arms, 2 legs, a head - yoga LITERALLY translates - equates to UNION (specifically - UNION of Body & Mind - balance - harmony between the two) so ANYTHING that balances and brings your mind and body into one being could be called Yoga. I call entheogenic and empatheogenic theraphy sessions - Chemical Yogas (as that's what they are in my mind, bio-chemical agents that promote new ways of thought about stubborn issues and incite/epiphany that can be quite serrendipitious and life changing - even cluing you in on a possibly internal problem - my friend - months before he was diagnoised and rushed to the hospital with appendicitis (bad bad bad too, just about to burst and huge p***y bleh) - the bio-chemical spirit guide that is Lucy - showed him the illness - but he couldnt determine exactly what organ it was just the local area (and he was close - thought it was a bladder infection).
Okay, I'm tired haha and I think I've exhausted all the posibilities I know of. If I can be of any further help please feel free to hit me up wiht a question, I'd be happy to help.

This list is not complete and other drugs may interact with amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. Tell your doctor about all medications you use. This includes prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor.
What should I avoid while taking Adderall (Amphetamine Dextroamphetamine)?
Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.
Do not take amphetamine and dextroamphetamine late in the day. A dose taken too late in the day can cause sleep problems (insomnia).
Avoid drinking fruit juices or taking vitamin C at the same time you take amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. These can make your body absorb less of the medicine. (ahh! see I had it backwards - the scheme I described is for benzodiazepines and opiates - thus why I AM NOT an expert haha)
