I've had IBS the entire 37 years of my life. I was officially diagnosed at 11. I have constant gas, bloating, abdominal pain and frequent bowel movements. Diet makes some difference, but not enough to control my IBS completely. I've always worked close to home so getting to a washroom was never an issue, but a year ago I started a new job in a tarsand mine which is about 40km from home and I take a bus to get there. Over the past year, I've taken 2 generic loperamide pills a day just so I can make it to work without having to run to the washroom. Loperamide allows me to live a somewhat normal life. On the weekends, I don't take any so I can give my body a break. I don't feel any side effects at all. Living with this disease is very difficult and you have to do whatever you can so you can work, socialize and live a decent life.

Loperamide is a synthetic opioid, though it does not get you high. This is because Loperamide doesn't act on the Central Nervous System (CNS). In fact, a common misconception is that loperamide doesn't cross the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB).Jan 22, 2015
