I am in the exact same situation as well. 1 hour spin class and 5 days in the hospital. I see you posted recently so I was hoping you can fill me in on how your recovery is going. Seeing my primary doc tomorrow for follow up and hopefully some answers. This is no fun!

I had Rhabdomylolsis in March 2003. It was compartment injury, from a long surgery. I tried to exercise the best I could, and went to a bunch of different doctors. They tried PT, different meds, and acupuncture. 3 years after the Rhabdomylols I had kind kidney cancer. Now 14 years later, I'm having some severe pain in my back. My Dr suggested a spinal cord stimulator. I'm considering it, it's the hope it will help, because I don't like being over medicated.

I was diagnosed with Rhabdo a little over a month ago. I am 35 and quite active. I had been working out 5-6 days out of the week over the last year. I decided to increase the intensity of my workout by joining a "strengthening and conditioning" class. Well after "arm" day with repetitive exercises for almost 30 mins...with very little water intake during... i got Rhabdo! I was hospitalized for 5 days with a CK level over 100k. My biceps where the affected muscles! I also never had the "dark" urine or abnormal renal function. I am a health care provider and notiiced the abnormal signs and went to the ER and asked specifically to r/o rhabdo. I am not sure if my prompt response to my body is what prevented those affects with such a high CK value. After a couple days of being discharged, i noticed by arms were sort of atrophied as well! Two weeks later i was back in the gym though. I started out doing the bike for about 10 min then slowly increased the duration with of course tons of water. I am now pretty close to where i was as far as working out my unaffected muscles (abs, legs). I have not specifically worked out my arms! I do run but have not ran over one mile. My left arm was the worst, and at times it is still quite uncomfortable and and feels "big".. i wear a sleeve to help decrease the swelling. I also have symptoms of ulnar neuropathy when i flex my left arm at the elbow for a long period of time,. I.e... typing at work. Otherwise i feel great and feel very lucky to habe only this problem.

For what it's worth, when I was diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis I hadn't done any strenuous activity. I cleaned my shower that was about it. However, a few days later after i was released from the hospital my PCP found that I had Lyme disease. That might be something worth exploring for somebody who can't find a cause.

I was diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis last February of '16 due to a heroin and methamphetamine overdose plus I was lifling to compete in a bodybuilding competition. I was in a coma for 5 days and spent another week in the hospital. When I woke up from the coma I had lost full function In my right shoulder (from the rhabdo). I was also almost deaf in both ears due to ringing (tinnitus). Today after months of rehab and exercise I have full mobility and hearing. Although I can't lift as much as I used to (and I don't mind that). Both of my shoulders pop and click now and I have pain sometimes. I also can't exercise that often anymore. But I'm much more grateful to be alive now.

I had Rhado I'm 2012, I had one of the worse cases the doctor's treated. I was a healthy athletic 23 year old 130lbs. My count was above 18000+ both kidneys failing and my weight jump to 197 lbs, then to 90lbs after 4 weeks later (sounds crazy I know). I was paralysed from my right for one year, permanent Spinal damage. But that wasn't related to rhabdo. I was in the hospital for 3 weeks, and I almost needed dialysis for the rest of my life. What I can tell you is that, rhabdo permanetly damages your muscles. You will experience more pain, even after workouts. You will have a harder time building muscle compared to the average person. Pay close attention to your body, visit you doctor and a kidney specialist. If you also have joint pain that can also be related to the rhabdo.. Stay strong and take care of yourself.

Is anyone still on the forum that has any after effects from rhabdomylosis related to muscle. My husband got rhabdo from a lengthy surgery which caused pressure to his quads. It has been about 8 months now and he still suffers from fatigue, pain and the quads have huge area where the muscle has wasted away causing deep divots in his thighs. Question will the muscle rejuvenate? Will his strength ever get back to what it was?

What type of surgery? Have you spoken with the surgeon? Some of the after effects from surgery are muscle atrophy.

I feel as though there is more hope for recovery for your husband than for myself, who has been suffering with recurrent rhabdomyolysis since early 2013, caused by mild exertion. Having been a competitive athlete whose activity level was anything but mild, this is yet to be explained by any medical professional.
I just spent the last 6 days in the hospital, which was terribly unpleasant just like the other coupl2 hundred some-odd past hospitalizations.
I'm yearning for a CK inhibitor, if there's any such thing.

do you take any medications for ADHD--stimulant in particular?

I do, however, I took meds in the same drug class prior to the first onset of rhabdo.

Do you have experience with this? I'd be very interested in discussing at greater length.

Thanks!
